I've got a luxating patella, and when the vet said "orthopedic surgeon", my mom said to the vet, "Have you ever heard of prolotherapy?" The doctor had her vial of glucose out of the cabinet and her syringe filled and I've been getting 2 shots a week for four weeks ($20/ea). Google prolotherapy; my Mom had the treatment and it was a miracle. It's not 'supposed' to work on luxating patellas, but the vet said she's seen it work over and over! It's hard to explain and it's late and my paws are tired, otherwise I'd explain it to you now. Bottom line; surgery was not an option a couple of weeks ago when this happened, and it happened not as an accident, but genetics. It's hereditary and when Mom called the breeder, she'd already had my Sire neutered (guess I wasn't the only pupper with this problem) and she offerred to give Mom ANOTHER Iggy; meaning ANOTHER -totalling 3 IG's- after Mom 'came to' she told the breeder that she must be insane!  (she's a little wacky, but fun) I was told by many to call the breeder but I didn't know why, except that she 'should know', so your Mom should do the same thing. Also, my breeder said that she'd pay for the surgery should I need it.  So I wish I could help you out and tell you whether it worked or not (mom's intuition says NO) and I've had no further incidences with the patella since I started the Prolotherapy, so it's a wait and see situation. I'm not sure when you wrote this, but if it's waylate for me to reply, then maybe you've already had the surgery and YOU can tell ME how it worked. Isn't it a drag? I'm 9 months old and do NOT want to be lame. One day at a time.
