We are getting alot of complaints about our Tommy barking at 6 am in the morning. Someone at the petstore recommened us to buy the natural herb called Valerian Root . That should clam him down for a few hours when we leave him alone. What do you think about that or do you have any other ideas on how to stop him barking.
If we don't stop the barking we might have to get ourselves a lawyer.

Thanks for your help.

That's a tough one. The valarian root sounds like a good idea, however I would check with your vet first to find out it's effectivness and it's safety. I know that they make those collars that give a *zap* each time that they bark, but I don't know if I am crazy about those gadgets! The trick is finding out why he is barking? Lonliness? boredom? all of the above? If it is because he is home alone during the day because you are working, maybe he just needs to be exhausted enough to want to rest during the day. Perhaps a morning run or exhilarating play time with the ball in the yard? If you are like me, I just don't have the time in the morning before work, so that may not be feesible for you. My best advice would be to ask your vet. He or she may have some reasonable alternative methods to try to help calm Tommy down enough to ease him out of this barking thing.
I know I wasn't much help. If I here of anything pertaining to this, I certainly will let you know!!
In the meantime Tommy.................SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Thanks for your advice. I am going to call the vet tomorrow and ask them. We don't have time in the morning. We take him on a short walk and then we get ready for work. Its like a game to him to bark when we leave. He only barks about 4 times and thats it. I heard those collars are dangerious to small dogs. I will see what the vet saids.
Thanks again.
We hope we don't get into anymore trouble or else we might have to find ourselves a lawyer.
Thanks much.

Hey- I did a little research and found this. It is a little costly at around $89.00, but humane and not harmful to the dog. It also seems that it is effective. It may be worth looking into as it would be cheaper than a lawyer!!!

Thanks for your advice. That barking device is controlled by a remote control. We need something that will be automatic because we are not home when it happens. He only barks 4 times when we leave for work and then stops.

hi,
have you heard of the citronella spray collars for barking?
friends of ours used it with their small dog and it worked.
geordi barks alot too and we are trying to get it under control.
its more protective barking not incessant, so far no complaints from our neighbors, fingers crossed.

hi again,
i forgot to mention "rescue remedy".
its from the health food store and is safe for pets.
it helps calm pets and people. its a liquid you drop on the tongue.
i've used it on myself and my cats and on geordi.
i swear by it maybe it might work for you.
good luck
