Happy was adopted from a no-kill shelter where he had been surrendered by his first family. I was looking for a dog that would not remind me too much of my previous dog- a basset/cocker mix who looked like a short-legged yellow lab. while Happy has some hound- beagle I think- in his mix, his personality is very different and he is very special.

My mom and dad got me by accident. Thier friends had found me and my sis left all alone in the forest. Their friends asked mom and dad to come see us to see if they wanted one. Well, mom and dad argued about it for a long time because they already had 2 big dogs. Finally mom convinced dad to "just go take a look." Their friends had already decided that they wanted to keep my sis and not me. So, mom and dad took me home for a trial period. Now....I am still here 8 mos. later!! cheer

I was at the shelter - my first owners couldn't look after me because they didn't have enough money. I didn't like it at the shelter - all the other dogs were so loud and I wasn't allowed to play with them. My mom and dad came by looking for a dog and they found me! They noticed me because I was the quietest dog there, and then they took me for a walk and a week later they came to take me home! I was scared at first, but I soon relaxed and now I love my new home!

My people were on their honeymoon in Turks and Caicos. I had been found with my dog mom and littermates locked in crate and covered with mud and caterpillars. So the TCSPCA cleaned me up and put me with a foster home on the island (it was right on the beach).

My mom had read about the plight of the local strays called "potcakes" and how it was possible to bring a puppy back home to the US. Well, they had been talking about getting a dog that summer and my mom was torn about getting a purebred because she knew mutts usually have less health issues and live longer. So she talked Dad into going to see the puppies available. As soon as they saw me, they both thought I was adorable. After watching the other puppies, they chose me. So the lady at the TCSPCA got me all set up with my shots, made arrangements with the airline and met my new parents at the airport with me in the carrier. I rode right under mom's seat in the airplane. No one even knew there was a puppy on the flight because I was so quiet. Of course those days of being quiet are long gone! BOL!

My mom came into a shelter with her mom about 10 years ago and saw me. I behaved myself while they were there and they fell in love with me =] I'm convinced it was the ears laugh out loud They found out I had been a little bit of a handful and had 2 or 3 different homes before I ended up there at 9 months old, but they gave me a chance! I'll admit I didn't really behave myself in the beginning, but when I realized they weren't going to send me back I started to settle down. 10 years later and I have 4 brothers, and awesome humans that love me to pieces! applause
