Three pit bulls were seized on March 27 from a residence in South Minneapolis after Minneapolis Animal Control officers responded to a complaint of dog fighting.

The officers were called to 3400 Oakland Ave. S. about 3:20 p.m. on March 27 and seized the dogs along with injectable drugs, syringes, treadmills modified for dog training and mineral supplements, said Tom Doty of the Animal Control office.

Doty said all three dogs had fight wounds. The investigation is continuing, and no charges have been filed against the owner of the dogs, Doty said.

A Minneapolis man is angry after animal control raided his home the night of March 27 and took possession of his dogs. Maurice Wallace says Minneapolis Animal Control removed three pit bulls from their cages in his backyard.

When approached by local news photographer, Wallace responded angrily and forced the camera away.

Wallace later said he is being investigated for being involved in dog fighting.

"They say I'm under investigation for dog fighting,” says Wallace. “You don’t see me [involved] in dog fighting, I don't even know anything about dog fighting."

Officials at animal control say they will not comment on the case because it is an ongoing investigation.

Keith Streff at the Humane Society says dog fighting is a large problem in Minnesota.

Wallace says he only raises dogs at his home and sells puppies.

“I clean my kennels three times a week,” Wallace says. “I clean them Monday, Wednesday and Friday.”
