Hi Everyone

Sorry to repeat myself (there were a few messages going around recently within the group on this topic), but my mum thought it would be a good idea to get everyone's suggestions posted up on the forum. We all know staffies are prone to super sensitive skin, but what's the cure? Is there any relief? Any suggestions to share with the rest of us out there would be greatly appreciated. I know I'm sick of all the itching and scratching and so are my parents! Thanks!

Hi Jayda,
As I've already mentioned to you, I used to have very dry, itchy skin too. Then, after going to see several vets, a doggy dermatologist recommended that I take a daily 3V capsule. Even though I am only 43 pounds (yes, a bit on the heavy side for a Staffy, I know...I'm apparently going to be put on a diet soon!) he said I should take the 3V capsule for large/giant breeds. I have been taking these capsules for about 3 years now and my skin has improved remarkably. I still scratch a bit from time to time, especially in the springtime, but NOTHING like before.

Mom did a bit of online research and found a few places where you can buy these capsules online. I am sure they would ship to Australia. We always buy 3V online because it is much cheaper than buying it at a regular store. Here are the links:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0 002TR5FM/002-9466974-5271246?v=glance&n=284507

The nutritional information per capsule is as follows:
EPA (Eicosapentanoic Acid) -- 250 mg
DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) -- 167 mg
Vitamin A -- 1250 IU
Vitamin D -- 125 IU
Vitamin E -- 75 IU

The nutritional info is comparable to what you will find in human Omega-3 supplements. The only difference is that the human supplements have more EPA and DHA in them (usually about 1000 mg or 1,200mg compared with 250 mg for us.) Your mom could buy you the human variety and just sprinkle a quarter of the capsule over your food. It is a bit messy because once you prick the capsule, it's hard to keep it from all dripping out. But, it's worth a try. If that doesn't work, then maybe your mom can try ordering the doggy type online.

It took about 2 - 3 weeks, after I started taking the Omega-3 supplements, to notice a difference in my coat's appearance and a lessening of the itching. I certainly hope this works for you, Jayda. Let me know, okay!

Smiles and wags,
Abby

My mum gives me Flaxseed oil tablets which really seemed to help clear up my itchy spots!
