I was on Clavamox for two weeks. i did not have any of the side effects that I was warned about. My UTI is back. Mom knew for sure it was back Friday. We have to wait until tomorrow for more medicine (probably a stronger antibiotic). We have been using the crystals for years, and I think in this case, they have me. Should we switch back to clay litter? Should we switch food? We are eating NB Reduced Calorie dry right now.

Well they always say that wet food is better as you need more moisture to help flush out the infection. I would switch to wet food (if you'll eat it - unlike me!) for the meantime - I think it would help.

Hope you're better soon, Stony!
Since switching to a fine clumping litter earlier this year, my mum would never switch back to any other. If you're scooping out the clumps of urine, that's BOUND to me more hygienic than a litter that just absorbs the urine - therefore less bacteria, although purrsonally I don't think your UTI is due to what litter you're using as I feel it comes from the inside, not outside the body.

Oh Stony! I am so sorry to hear you are not feeling well! Which kind of crystals did you have? Did the doctor say? There are two kinds I am familiar with in cats. Treatment is slightly different for each.

Pepsi, what name of litter do you use? My mom and dad have asthma problems with the clay litter but I think we may have to switch back, or use a mix.

It's called Clean N Tidy Multicat by Sharples and Grant. It's a Canadian brand apparently. If mum couldn't get it from the pet supplies trade warehouse where she can use her friend's cat charity's trade card, she probably would have to get something cheaper as it's pretty expensive here - £13 for a 12kg tub, but she can get it for less than half price at the warehouse.
I'm sure you have lots of litters of this type in the USA. It's very fine, like the texture of course semolina and makes really neat clumps...and it smells like CATNIP!!

In America that litter is Scoop Away for multiple cats. At least that's what I found. I seem to be improving, and I am loving my wet food breakfast every day!
