Oh Paws..... Seizures are such a scary, scary thingcry

I have had seizures since I was 12 weeks old. The first time Mom saw me have one...she was just SO frightened.

I had several seizures a year....til I was about 5..then I started getting them more and more frequently. So I started taking Phen0barbitol about 5 years ago...and have not had a seizure since. It has been working well for me.

I think there are more holistic ways of treating seizures..but we never tried them. When the Pheno starting working...Mom just kept me on it. And now I also take Milk Thistle to help with the liver function also.

We are sending our prayers to you both..because Mom knows how heart-wrenching it is to watch...and not be able to do anything until it passes.

Mom always just layed on the floor with me....and held me until it passed.

Please let us know how sweet Paws makes out.

If we can help in any way....please let us know.cloud 9cloud 9

Lots of POP coming your way...hughug

Hi Casey, yes they are very scary. My mommy was crying and very upset as this is the first time she has ever seen anything like this and for it to happen to her baby....I can't even put it into words. Mommy called the 24 hour emergency hospital to find out more as she thought it was a seizure I had in which the doctor confirmed it. Mommy was so scared for me as I was rolling from one side of the bedroom to the other and crashing into everything. Doc told mommy as you said...there isn't anything anyone can do except wait it out until I'm done and come out of it. Doc did tell mommy not to touch me because there is a chance I could hurt mommy really bad by biting her....not that I would do that on purpose...I Love my mommy. Doc also told mommy to remove any items that could be harmful to me during a seizure....anything that I could get hurt from thrashing around the room. Mommy thinks I hit my head on the night stand so she's staying home with me today to keep a very close eye on me. Doc also told mommy after a seizure it is common for me to sleep as the seizure takes alot out of us big doggies. Well I'll keep you all posted, I need to get my rest nobody really got any sleep around here last night! smile

Oh Paws, how scary for you and mommy. I, too, have had seizures. Mine were always pretty mild but I did have one at the vet's office so they witnessed I and told mom that was it was for sure. I take Potassium Bromide and have never had one since. I just have to watch my salt intake.

Many dogs have seizures of "unknown origin". I think it's fairly common even though very scary. I never went through any tests to see why I have them. I had no symptoms of anything neurologic at all so the vet just figured it was a seizure disorder.

Poor mommy. We will say extra prayers and are sending POP to my friend.hughug

Hi Nick, wow I didn't know about you. If it's ok with your mommy, my mommy has lots of questions now. Mommy called my doctor but he's on vacation until Wednesday. The doctors office told mommy not to leave me alone unless she has to I guess until we talk to doc and see what he says when he gets back. We have cleaned up everything I can get possible get hurt by should I get another one. We will def talk to doc about the Potassium Bromide. Is there anything else my mommy can do for me until doc gets back?

Probably not much, Paws. It may not even happen again. All mommy can do is make sure you can't get hurt. And if you do have another one, tell mommy to time it and try to remember all that is happening when it is going on. That will help the vet.

Mommy kind of feels helpless but we will def time it should there be another one. I think mommy's getting a little paranoid as it's getting later and the one I had last night was at 11:45pm...guess if we make it past that time she may calm down a little. Thank you for your help...sorry for all the questions.

No problem, Paws. That's one of the best things about our Dogster family. You can always ask questions about health and behavior and you know that someone probably has had a similar experience.

Let us know how you are doing tomorrow!

Thank you Lucy, Nick and Mom,

I'm getting back to myself more as time goes by. I'm staying with mommy until daddy gets home on Friday. I heard mommy tell daddy she's taking off work on Friday and her and I are going to the airport to pick him up...then off to see doc to make sure all is ok. Mommy has removed everything around just incase so I don't hurt myself and she will be coming home at lunch time to check up on me. Will def keep you posted. Thank again for your help and support.
