wave Hi every scrapper!

I contacted our most wonderful group leader, Tiff, having read her post below. She's at a point where she needs to focus on some things, both personal and business, and we can all relate. She's recently been the victim of a hacker. Unfortunately, one of the shops she's with was recently violated and the entire inventory was purged! Can you believe it? Just diabolical. The hacker did gain access to her blog (not HER shoppe) and caused some problems. Luckily, the inventory in the Scrap Piles Shoppe wasn't purged.

On a happy note, she will come back to us. However, at this point, no timeline has been set.

Let's put our heads together and all pitch in while she's on sabatical.

Every idea is welcome, both from admins and nonadmins. We've got to figure out a way to maintain our challenges.

For the short term - let's revive our scrap swap and one kit theme scraps. Maybe we can ALL share some ideas about learning new techniques, tutorial sites, etc.

Any and all suggestions, recommendations and ideas are most welcome!!

A layout for Tiff!!

All that said - as we did last year when Tiff went away - Let's make a layout for Tif. You may use a picture of her, her pups, you, your pups - whatever you want. A special layout for our most special Tiff!!

xoxo

Of course, Kili!

Yes, we should start up the scrap swap - and definately make sure to post any other scraps in the threads, human or animal, you have been doing!

Should we admins maybe each take a turn posting challenges for a month?

Thanks, Chauncey.

Ok, here is my opinion and mine only.

Mads lead me by the paw to this group because she knew how much I love graphics! I came here hoping to learn more than the little basics I knew.

Here's some of the things I have learned:

shadows
color changing
reflections

Am I great at it~no! But I'm learning. I sit and laugh at the one color scrap now. How did I learn color changing? It was a little bitty comment Min made when he posted his scrap. It sent me into a frenzy to figure out how he did it!

How did I learn shadows? It ticked me off ya'll had shadows so I had to come up with some way to put shadows in! Have I mastered it? NOPE! Not like you do! But sooner or later, I'll figure it out.

Reflections: hughughughugThanks for the tutorial, Tucker, and the inspiration to learn! Also thanks to every pup who helped me get Suvi's right!

I would love to see some tutorial lessons! Something simple, I know it's a lot of work to write them. But, you only have to do it once and it's here for as long as the group is.

Also, I would love to know how to use some of the pieces they put in these kits! I look and them, insert them into a scrap, flip it, rotate it, color it and remove it! Yet I see them in other scraps used perfectly! Now, that said, I understand we all have our own style. Maybe some of those pieces just aren't my style. I tend to be a very clean scrapper, don't really know if I can learn to change that. Do I want to try? YES! But I don't know how to do it on my own.

Maybe a challenge where we all have to use a limited number of pieces to make a scrap?

I guess what I'm saying is that I, as a newbie to digital scrapping and this group, feel somewhat lost with all the GREAT scrappers. AND honestly, I have considered just disappearing because I'm not learning anything.

I can keep doing what I'm doing forever or I can grow. I want to grow, but I can't do that if there is no constructive criticism, no suggestions, no tutorials.

Okay, I've said enough.

*Slinks off*

That's a great idea Chauncey - each of us taking a turn with a challenge.

Ohhhh, Kili - YOU GO GIRL!!! smile NEVER slink off smile Always say how you feel smile You made some very important, valid points.

I, for one, am sooooo happy you expressed yourself. Speaking for myself, I know exactly WHAT you mean in terms of appropriately using elements and feeling a little intimated. Honest to DOG, I felt the same way - we all did, sweetie. But this is where you can cut your teeth, gain some confidence with the product and have fun. Don't even ask when I first started - my hands would shake while I loaded my overly-sized element layout.

To be very open, there are and always have been 3 certain scrappers here - who, whenever they make a layout - I study them judiciously. We all have our favorites. I've looked to see where and how their elements were placed, clustering, sizing, color usage, photo effects, element repitition, etc. They, unknowingly, have been the greatest, silent mentors to me. So thank you - my scrapping DIVAS!! I've said over and over, while looking at those beauiful layouts, I would have NEVER thought of that!!!! smile Much of digiscapping is just that and it's described as 'inspiration'. Not scrap lifting, but learning from those with greater expertise or a greater artistic eye. Remember, digiscrapping can have a mystical, unrealistic approach - an element can do anything and be anything you want it to be. While it's a fun hobby, it can also serve as a serious artistic expression that requires growth and study.

The scrapper you are today - is NOT the scrapper you'll be next month, or next year. You're doing amazingly well and challenging yourself; and your scraps prove that. You are NOT a one trick pony - each of your scraps is different than your previous. You've extracted your pups and created scenes and also traditionally scrapped the pups. You don't follow a partiular theme, but rather continually change your perspective and the growth is apparent.

The one kit theme thread should prove helpful to you - seeing how others interpret the kits. No?

You can ALWAYS pmail anyone of us admins for help, comfort, inspiration WHATEVER you need. Our dog house door is ALWAYS open.

And I agree, we as admins do have a responsiblity to those just beginning.

hug

Very well said, Tucker, on all topicsapplauseapplause

I agree that we should keep the swap going and the one kit themes. We are coming up on such a busy time of year for everyone but even with Tiff gone temporarily, I think it's important we maintain the group and keep scrapping and learning and sharingcloud 9

This has been such a lifesaver for me. I didn't know how much I needed a creative outletway to go I just finished a book of scraps for my sis who is turning 50 next week. I scanned the family photos and using everything I learned here, made a beautiful album. Thanks to all of you for sharing and tutoring and instructing!

OK, off to make a scrap for Tiff. I'm so sorry that happened to her. She must be devastated. I'm just glad you were able to get her to come back when she is able.

Tucker, anything I can help you with as an admin, just holler...or barkdogdog

AND I've said now why didn't I think of that! But then I open a kit and go thinkingthinkingthinking What the heck is that for? And where do I put it?

I love digital scrapping and this group is fantastic! I guess I just want and expect more from myself and I don't know how or where to get what I need to make that happen. Yay, Kili!! I hope the links help, and I hope you don't think it not helpful of me not reinterpreting the site's instructions foryou, but I don't use Gimp any longer. However, if you have any questions - I may be able to help you based on my vague recollection of the program. I found Gimp's perspective tool much more enhanced than PSE and it's wonderful for 3d shadowing smile

I would also recommend the next time you're at Digiscrap Depot, take a peak at the Gallery posts. Seeing other scrappers work can be the GREATEST tutorial of all.

And in terms of shadowing - that is a growing trend and most important. I routinely adjust the opacity and recolor my shadow work to make it more realistic and softer - I rarely use the default black color or settings. Often times, I duplicate the image, remove the color (turning it to black or brown), adjust the opacity, and use the distort tool on the shadow against its image. Lots of work, but when done correctly is beautiful.
