The ADA doe snot specify if the dog must be trained by an owner or by an organization, they can't discriminate against your dog just because you trained it for your son, the only time they can say something is if the dog behaves in appropriately for a service dog.
The only thing I can think of to add is to make sure you are wearing a vest or anything else that identifies you as a Service Dog In Training and as a SD later on. I am totally owner trained. With some input from a trainer.

depending on where in Cali you are, I know of several OT teams and they have a lot of links to trainers also. My understanding is that in Cali, a Sdit has the same access privileges as a SD under state law (ADA does nothing for a SDit) Of course the SDit should be well behaved and potty trained etc before starting access work.
