Subject: How Far Are You Willing To Go? Sent: Mon Jun 15

Message:
How Far Are You Willing To Go?
===============================

Yesterday's issue concerning the 4 for 20 offer on the t-shirts
specifically stated no shipping charges to anywhere in the U.S.
http://www.mountainwings.com/past/9165.htm

I was willing to absorb the loss to help people in the U.S. but
international shipping can get extremely expensive. The first
foreign order other than Canada came from Finland.

The online UPS calculator said it costs $103.22 to ship the
shirts to Finland. Some other countries are higher.

The shopping cart didn't automatically block or charge shipping
on orders not from the U.S. As I saw orders come in from beyond
our borders, I knew the shipping could get real expensive if we
didn't cancel or charge shipping on those orders.

The thought ran through my mind, "Am I willing to go that far?"

Was I willing to pay that many more dollars per order to send
some orders of shirts to a foreign country for a $20 return that
didn't even cover the cost of the shirts? That's an entirely
different level of financial commitment.

Then I heard the Holy Spirit speak, "How much is a soul worth?"

Sooner or later, you too will face some very tough monetary
decisions concerning helping others.

Can I afford it?
I need more money myself!
Is it worth the sacrifice?
What will I have to give up to help?
What will my spouse think if I do this?
Will they even appreciate or remember it three years from now?

Many questions will race through your head as the prospect of a
big monetary investment that won't return in a logical tangible
manner looms ahead. There will be the questions that cause your
head to shake in the negative.

Suppose I do this and all of those shirts to all of those
countries ONLY changes and affects ONE person?

"How much is a soul worth?"

We will ship the 4 for 20 offer to anywhere on earth.

The Second Hill 6/21
================

Are you running that hill or is that hill running you?

That's a question a man asked me today as I was jogging.

He was standing by his car, I was breathing hard as I moved up
the hill where he was parked. His question plagued me.

Each day presents us with hills.

Hills, bills, chills, spills, thrills, deals, kills, pills,
wills, and nils. . .

We have them all sooner or later.

Are they running you or are you running them?

Each hill or uphill climb in our lives tries to tire us, make us
quit, or at the very least, make us complain.

You can't avoid getting tired.

I don't care how much exertion your physical or mental
conditioning can withstand, a steep enough hill will make you
tired.

Whether the hill is running you doesn't depend upon whether you
are tired. There are those who are tired even though they are
sitting in rocking chairs.

The hill runs you when it gets you down.
I refuse to let that happen.
I know the hills make me stronger, that's why I run them.
Every hill in my life has made me stronger.

If you run your hills instead of them running you,
they will make you stronger, too.

You'll be in better shape.

You'll get tired, but eventually the same hill will get easier
and easier.

One day, even the hills will be no challenge.

You'll seek a mountain.

Don't worry, you've got Wings.

Powe thoughts
June 21, 2009

O Lord, thou hast searched me and known me! Thou knowest when I sit down and when I rise up. . . .
Psalm 139:1–2 (RSV)

Father’s Day and not a word from Timothy—not even a quick “Happy Father’s Day!” at the breakfast table. It was not like him to forget Father’s Day.

It made me nostalgic for Father’s Days of the past when both boys were around. I could remember magical days at the ball field, cheering them on. I could recall picnic suppers in the park and handmade cards and clay creations. But not this year: William had a summer job in California, and in the afternoon we would be taking Timothy upstate to his job as a camp counselor. The day would be spent behind the wheel of a car. After the long drive, Carol and I would come home, eat dinner, and I’d watch Tim’s and my favorite TV show all by myself.

That’s all right, I told myself. The boys are busy doing other things—as it should be at their ages.

William called on the cell phone as we were driving back from camp. I was touched. But Timothy hadn’t mentioned anything, even when I hugged him good-bye. The house seemed deathly quiet. I washed dishes, brushed my teeth and went to watch TV. I was just about to plop myself down on the sofa when I noticed a bright turquoise envelope on my usual spot. “Papa,” Timothy had written on the card inside, “I hope it’s a good episode tonight, even without me there. Happy Father’s Day!”

When someone loves you, they know you well . . . and know just where to find you.

Lord, let me be dependable—and full of surprises—to those I love.
