Hi there!

Are any of you prone to ear infections? I sure am... It's my 3rd ear infection in 4 months cry Turns out that my infections are bacterial. The vet sent a culture to the lab but we haven't received the results yet. In the meantime, I've been taking a daily antibiotic and a painkiller twice a day for almost 2 weeks, and getting Otomax drops in my ears twice a day for the past 3 weeks. It's getting better - but it's not over yet. I'm still shaking my head, and my ears hurt when mommy cleans them. We are going back to the vet again this Saturday for a check-up, hopefully the lab has some answers for us by then.
Are any other poodles having similar ear problems?

Hi Lulu-

Ow! Otomax has always worked for me, but then I've only had two ear infections. My mom's first standard poodle, Bosco, contracted a bacterial infection from swimming in the Mississippi River. He also had chronic yeasty infections that abated when he went on allergy desensitization shots.

We standard poodles are prone to ear infections. Most human owners do struggle with our ears. My human mom is a pet groomer and sees it alot in our kind.

Pulling the ear hair out of our ears really helps, have your vet show you or make sure your groomer does it.

Yes, I do have hairy ears and the groomers pluck them monthly. Should the ear hairs be removed more frequently? Does it hurt? (Mom even bought the special tweezers to be able to pluck me herself but she is a bit of a wimp and is afraid to use them because the couple of times she tried I wiggled too much and she was afraid to scare or hurt me....)
