HI Beautiful Ben! wave

I think we may be related. (Follow far enough along the family tree and many of us poodles may turn out to be at least "far removed" cousins! : )

I have the same kind of hair. My hair is very dense, kinky-curly and matts easily. On the other hand, my cousin, Luc, has lovely waves in his hair and it's very, very soft. . . .

My first question: What is the silicone thingy that your mom uses?

Mom and I are going to be looking forward to the advice on this matter from other poodle parents. Does anyone know of some especially fabulous shampoo and conditioner? Also, Mom would like to begin taking over some of the grooming responsibilities and I think I would prefer that, too. . . Any advice related to owner-grooming? All other advice that will help Mom take care of my black-as-coal coat will be most appreciated.

It is very common for poodles to have thick curly fur. It is a lot like wool and we need shaved a lot. It is wild and long and we don't shed. Don't worry if your fur is having problems because we are all having the same issue.
Wash your hair more often and shave it regularly. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do to fix it? Anymore tips?

Thank you Hershey for the sound advice! : ) Mom has been working on her bathing technique, especially after a beach trip, which is when I bring home several pounds of sand. She's learning all the nooks and crannies where it hides and sticks and she's improving her technique all the time. . .

I'm glad to hear that Whinnie Joy! It's very important that we are getting properly cleaned. It's not just about the looks, it's also about keeping heathey. And we may not like baths, but we can all admit that we feel a lot better after one! dancingdancingdancing

Ok, anymore questions about keeping clean or any other topic?

WORLDS BEST EAR CLEANER

I am always on the look out for anything that works great. I heard of this ear cleaner called blue power wash from some breeder friends of mine. They were bragging about this stuff and how awesome it was. I am usually pretty skeptical about things like this and it took a long time for anyone to talk me into making and trying it. I tell you this is the best stuff in the whole world and I will NEVER go back to the store bought brands again. This stuff really works and I HIGHLY recommend it! Try it you will be amazed!

INGREDIENTS:

16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol

4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder - this powder is a little hard to find. You can find it a some health food stores or at some small mom & pop pharmacies.

16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1% - now this stuff took me a long time to locate. You can find it on line and order it or you may be able to find it at some mom & pop pharmacies or your local walmart may also carry it. If walmart doesn't have it ask them to order it for you. If you happen to find the 2% gentian violet instead just use 8 drops.

Mix together in a large bottle and shake well. We have found that if you go to your local beauty supply and find a bottle with the long pointed tips like the kind they use for hair dies, it works great for getting into the ear canal. (Do not worry you can not touch the dogs ear drum)

Please shake this solution every time you use it to mix the Boric Acid Powder. Either a baby ear syringe or a plastic squirt bottle work well for putting the solution in the ear.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Check the ears before treating. If they are inflamed and sore do not attempt to pluck the hair or clean out ear. Flush the ear with the solution and wait for the inflammation to go away. Usually takes 2-4 days of this.

On first treatment, if the ear is NOT inflamed, flood the ear twice, wipe with a cotton ball, and leave alone without massage.

The dog will shake out the excess, which can be wiped with a tissue. (This stuff will tint lighter dogs fur but this will go away and will not cause harm to the dogs hair. This stuff does stain fabrics though.

Treat 2 times per day for the first week - two weeks, depending upon severity of ears.

After the 2nd or 3rd day you can clean out the ear with a Q- tip.

Treat one time per day for the next 1-2 weeks.
Treat one time per month (depending on the dog and the severity of the ears).

Momma found the stuff at our grocery store pharmacy and walgreens most dem places will order it for you too and momma uses long dropper she got at the walgreens to put it in our ears..
