Please please try not to panic. My pap Henry had what they call a "polysystemic shunt" aka liver shunt. He had no symptoms other than bladder stones. After many many visits to the vets office they decided that he had this condition. Please don't think that you did anything wrong, from what I understand some unlucky paps are just born with this. Has your baby had a bile acid test? I know you said that there had been many labs drawn, but they normally don't draw this test b/c its expensive, but it almost always gives a definite diagnosis. Once Henry had this test, they knew for sure and sent us to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for his surgery. From what I understand the condition itself can be very brutal if not reated(just what you wanted to hear right?) I don't know where you live but the UW offers assistance to pet owners in dire need. Henry had his surgery almost a year ago, the people there were very nice and called me several times a day while he recovered just to fill me in. He has fully recovered and is very happy, healthy and I would make the decision again if I had to.

Thank you all for your messages and well wishes! Penny had surgery in late April to repair her liver shunt and just had her 3-month check-up bile acid test which shows everything is back to normal! If anyone lives in the Charlotte area, I highly recommend Carolina Veterinary Specialists. They were wonderful and very thoughtful. Penny has gained 4 1/2 lbs since her surgery and is happy and healthy!cheer
