Penny's lost a pound since her last checkup in August and I am so worried! She is skin and bones! She's always been a picky eater...never liked dog food and a few weeks ago I started withholding treats and table scraps to try to force her to eat her dog food. Well let me tell you she is too stubborn for that! Now since Sunday she has been very mopey and obviously not well. I took her to the vet Tuesday and she weighed 9.2. (She's kinda tall for a papillon so they want her to weigh between 10 and 11) Just waiting on lab results now and thinking the worst. She's only 4 years old.

I hope everything is ok. Not sure what to say. Boston used to be very picky as well. I bought natural balance canned food and mixed in well with his kibble the only way I could get him to eat anything and he still wasnt the greatest eater. Till I switched to Orijen. First food I didnt have to add anything to. He got bored after 2 or 3 months now I feed a rotation diet. He is never bored and gained alot of much needed weight. Have you tried adding anything to Penny's food? I hope its nothing serious and just a matter of not liking the food.hug

We are very concerned! What did the vet say? What's going on with poor Penny?

I hope Penny is doing better and her blood tests are OK. It may just be boredom with the food. Miguel never was interested until we got Tara. Now he eats right away or he knows she'll eat his.. We do add a few snips of chicken jerky and a tablespoon of warm water to his food. Not that this is it, but I just read on the Pap911 website about a new disease affecting dogs in certain parts of the country. It comes from ingesting infected ticks and they think one of their rescue dogs, "Toki" might have it. He has not been interested in food and has a high white blood cell count. He has lots of other problems as well, but we should all be aware of this medical alert on Ticks.

I'm so sorry it's taken so long to respond. We've been in and out of the vet almost every week trying to figure out what's going on. Now we are being referred to a specialty center for an ultrasound to rule out liver shunts. Just found this out this morning so needless to say this has been a very stressful day. Penny is acting much better except for excessive thirst/urination and having some accidents in the house. The vet this morning said the outcome with surgery is very good but the cost is around $2000.00. We've already spent about $600.00 and the ultrasound Friday will be at least $300.00. So if in fact they say she needs this expensive surgery we are going to have to find a way to pay for it, which just adds to the stress. Thank you all for your messages and worrying about us.
