Well after reading about Annabelle and her family and what they have gone through. Todays question is about just that...how does your mom feel about multiple vaccinations??

When I got Lucas granted that was ten years ago...he would go into the vet annually for standard vaccinations. I can tell you now it is completely another story it seems the vet is always talking about a vaccination for something else.shrugMy husband always tells the vet just how he feels and only lets them get the standard ones. Lucas has always gotten his Frontline and Heartguard for six months of the year...now the vet says they should be on it all year...I think I have told you guys about thatthinking Anyway we have stayed true to our schedule that we have always used. Every time I hear about a pup falling ill because of vaccinations I get so scared...I thought this be a good topic to get everyones opinion on this...do not be shy tell lets hear what you guys think way to go

Out take is that vets are now starting to act like specialists...don't forget they too get kick backs for using products..
plus mom read where alot of them fess up to the fact more humans are wanting this and that for the dogs, so they feel forced into finding more and more ways to calm humans fears...just like a human going into a doctor for a runny nose or some ghost pain..the doctor just pulls their prescription pad out...
Mom had two dogs for 12 and 14 years respectfully...they never went into for annual shots...nor were they on heartworm...one died of old age and the other one got cancer...but still..mom thinks more and more its like they are saying about kids...we don't let them play in the dirt, play roughhouse, get germs and now more and more have allergies, medical problems...
We were all, both humans and dogs born with the best defense against germs and other ills...our own natural body defenses..
Anyhoo..mom does do the annual shots but that is all...no this little thing or that little thing...lets us dogs be dogs!!!!! I want to eat poop!!!!...No just kidding I don't do that....
we are getting off our soapbox...dog

Boo...I agree with your mom wholeheartedly!! I also understand vets too need to make money. However when is enough enough!!
Your mom hit a point that I often find very interesting....kids are so medicated these days...when I was young we played until we just about dropped we did not have computers or videos...we just played outside from sun up till sun down...we did not take drugs to make us settle...we just simply wore ourselves out. I never see kids out playing like that anymore....no zoned off streets for kick ball...no neighborhood dead man hunt game...no home made tree houses that you had to have a home made paper clip bracelet to get into. It is just kind of sad really...I often think as I watch my niece and nephews zoned out in front of some computer screen of TV of all the stuff they are missing out on.
Back to the point about our dogs...I agree we are born with the best defenses and I sometimes think all the stuff we give them just weakens that. shrug Is it just me or is all this advancement not really all it is cracked up to beshrug

yep sad huh...mom grew up on a farm...in the summer she never wore shoes..her feet took an hour to clean (this is when she was young and didn know better), we played that dead man thing, we went on long long walks in the hills by ourselves...thank you vury much...we played in the irragation water..cuz chemicals weren't used then. Even the dogs and we had many, never, never went to the vet unless they got hit or broke a bone...they all died of old age and were happy...hmph!

Yeppers we can tell our moms are da old timers..hehe

This is a pet peve of moms and she's probably the oldest in the group! {{helping her up to her soapbox}} big laughbig laugh Cancer is the leading cause of death in us pups and lately folks are saying these multiple vaccines are no help. In fact they might be triggers! The last time I went in for shots... what mom thought was just going to be the normal rabies and distemper... the tech told her AFTER giving me the shot that there were other vaccines included. And not to worry because they were given at 'no cost'. HA! But that you did have to come back for a booster in order for them to work properly. {{the no cost was actually 25 bucks a booster}} Mom's gonna play the old lady card the next time she goes to the vets and ask them not to do it. And then tell them what she's heard and ask their opinion. I think alot of people just go along with the program, whatever it is, and don't ask enough questions. **OK mom you can get down now, everyone's asleep** kittykittykitty

applauseapplauseapplause I am not asleep wave Brutus do not be rudenaughty your mom has a valid point...we should all ask questions before anything is put into our pets!!...I know I personally have a whole new outlook going into the vets office now than I did 10 years ago. However that being said my vet back in NY was very honest and had no problem telling me just what he thought about these vets out to make a buck....he was just a small clinic on his own...he was a really great guybig grin
Brutus...give my mom a hand off the boxwink

I know we're late answering this question, but by the time my mom got to it, she was too sleepy to answer smile . So, we're answering it today.

My mom was so saddened to hear about Annabelle. She was really praying she would recover. Her prayers are with Maureen.

As for the shots, my mom takes me in for my annual shots -- that's it. My vet has never tried to give me anything extra or suggest I get any extra shots. I do take my heartworm treat thingys and get my flea treatment year round. My mom says she just doesn't want to play with that or the regular shots I should have. Now don't get me wrong, she HAS wondered about my allergies and the shots ... hmm, is it possible I suffer like this because of one or more of the shots? She said she'll have to do some research on that. Great question, though, Riley.

Oh my goodness, my mom just read the statement below on another site and thought, this could be why I am fearful of things I wasn't fearful of in the past and why my allergies or scratching was really bad this year. This is something she should definitely look into a LOT more!!

Dr. Pat Bradley, DVM -
"In a general and frightening context, I see the overall health and longevity of animals deteriorating. The bodies of most animals have a tremendous capacity to detoxify poisons, but they do have a limit. I think we often exceed that limit and overwhelm the body's immune system function with toxins from vaccines. The most common problems I see that are directly related to vaccines on a day to day basis are ear or skin conditions, such as chronic discharges and itching. I also see behavior problems such as fearfulness or aggression. Often guardians will report that these begin shortly after vaccination and are exacerbated with every vaccine."

She got the above from this site: Pet Vaccination Danger - Adverse Reaction to Routine Vaccination
