Let's start a new thread where we can ask our "scrapin questions" ...

I'll go first ~

Some of the "Theme Kits" I download have the term "index" on embellishment & can't be moved on to the page I'm working on. Even though the "lock" sign is there, they can't be unlocked & I can't figure out what is going on. I can open them in PhotoShop but can't move them on to my page. If I am bound & determine & must have that embellishment to make my page complete ... I use the "magnetic lasso," cut out the embellishment & then move it to my page.
Has anyone else figured out what "index" embellishments are????

Are those the ones that are PSP files, not PNG??? I have downloaded a few that are not PNG nd I too can open them but can not move them to my page.
I read on the designers website that she was in the process of changing to PNG since that's what most scrappers use.

Not sure if that's your issue but the PSP vs PNG is something I have come across.

I hope maybe I can answer that question for Photoshop Elements. When you see "index" on an element you have just opened, click Image / Mode / RGB color. You should then be able to unlock it.

Another little trick when a layer wont unlock...

Click Layer
Click Duplicate Layer

You then have a perfect copy you CAN do what you what with

Excellent idea this thread !

The PSP files are created by Correl Photoshop prog.

I have had this... simply contact the designer( they all now seem to have shout boxes and emails) and ask them if they could convert the files to png . They are usually only too delighted to do so.

Flicka, a question shrug
I understand why you duplicate the layer -- you don't want to permanently change the file from indexed color to RGB color. But when you close the file, if you say you do not want to save changes, it will remain indexed color, won't it? I hope I haven't been ruining the files frown

Yep.. it will remain.

ANY changes you make to the file.. as long as you click NO to saving them will vanish into the ether.

Its like when you have multiple objects on a png and you only want one. You use the Crop tool to isolate that one and you use it. When you close the file it asks if you want to save the changes... you click NO.

When you open the file again... there are the multiple objects on the png.
