Map....

A father wanted to read a magazine but was being interrupted by his
little girl, Shelby. She wanted to know what the United States looked like.
Finally, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was
printed the map of the country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to Shelby and said,

"Go into the other room and see if you can put this together.
This will show you our whole country today."

After a few minutes, Shelby returned and handed him the map, correctly
fitted and taped together. The father was surprised and asked how she had
finished so quickly.

"Oh," she said, "on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus.
When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together."

AMEN!!!!!

The Bum
========

You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats
those who can do nothing for him.
James D. Miles

Everyone respects and helps the millionaire, the famous, the boss,
those with beauty and brains.

What about the bum on the street?

This is a real story. It happened to me, the writer of
MountainWings.com.

I was parked in front of the church cleaning out my Jeep.
I was waiting on someone.

Coming my way from across the street was what society would
consider a bum.

From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes,
and no money. There are times when you feel generous but there
are other times that you just don't want to be bothered.

This was one of those "don't want to be bothered times."

"I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought.

He didn't.

He came and sat on the wall in front of the bus stop to wait on
the bus.

After a few minutes he spoke.

"That's a very pretty Jeep," he said.

He was ragged but he had an air of dignity around him. His
scraggly blond beard keep more than his face warm. I said,
"thanks," and continued cleaning out the Jeep.

He sat there quietly as I worked. The expected plea for money
never came.

As the silence between us widened something inside said,
"ask him if he needs any help."

I was sure that he would say "yes" but I held true to the inner
voice.

"Do you need any help?" I asked.

He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall
never forget.

We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it
from those of higher learning and accomplishments. I expected
nothing but an outstretched grimy hand.

He spoke the three words that shook me.

"Don't we all?" he said.

I was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, above a
bum in the street, until those three words hit me like a twelve
gauge shotgun.

Don't we all?

I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but
I needed help.

I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus
fare, but enough to take a cab anywhere in the city and get food
and shelter for the day.

Those three little words still ring true.

No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have
accomplished, you need help too.

No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with
problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give
help.

Even if it's just a compliment, you can give that.

You never know when you may see someone who appears to have it
all. They are waiting on you to give them what they don't have.
A different perspective on life, a glimpse at something
beautiful, a respite from daily chaos, that only you through a
torn world can see.

Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the
streets.

Maybe he was more than that.

Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise,
to minister to a soul too comfortable in themselves.

Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum,
then said, "go minister to that man cleaning the Jeep, that man
needs help."

Don't we all?

"Life should not be a journey to heaven with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW---What A Ride!"

Put It Into Action!

Today's Scripture
“And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ” (Philemon 1:6, NLT).

Today's Word
The Bible tells us that faith without works is dead. That means if you don’t put your faith into action, it’s not really faith, it’s just a nice, but faulty, concept. When God truly does a work in our lives, it affects everything about us - our words, our thoughts, our actions. How do you know someone is generous? By their generous actions. How do you know someone is kind? By their kind actions. How do you know someone is gentle? By their gentle actions. How do you know someone is a follower of Christ? By their Christ-like actions!

Can people tell by your actions that you belong to God? We all have areas that we can come up higher in, but the Good News is that God promises to help us improve - to mold us and make us more like Him. Ask Him to search your heart and mind today. Surrender any area of your life that isn’t pleasing to Him. Invite Him to have His way in your life and allow Him to make you into all He intended you to be!

A Prayer for Today
Father in heaven, thank You for promising to help me to change - for wanting me to become more like You. I invite Your love to do a work in my heart so that You are reflected in everything I say and do.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Sometimes the best advice is the stuff we've all heard before - a time or two!

An old farmer's advice

*Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

* Keep skunks and bankers and lawyers at a distance.

* Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

* A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

* Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled.

* Meanness don't jes' happen overnight.

* Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.

* Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

* It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

* You cannot unsay a cruel word.

* Every path has a few puddles.

* When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

* The best sermons are lived, not preached.

* Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway.

* Don't judge folks by their relatives.

* Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

* Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

* Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't botherin' you none.

* Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

* If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

* Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

* The biggest troublemaker, you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

* Always drink upstream from the herd.

* Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

* Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

* If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

* Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

Leave the rest to God.
