Just wondering if anyone has shaved thier Pom??? If so, what was the outcome? Did the hair grow back fuller or the same? How long did it take to grow back? My girl's coat is drab and flat, I was wondering if shaving her would help it to grow back fuller???

We are five furry siblings and we have all been shaved lots of time -

I don't think shaving makes hair grow back fuller - the only thing we have heard of is that sometimes shaving causes it to grow back patchy! cry Jazzy's fur did this after getting shaved many times.

Some poms don't have a thick undercoat so their hair is not that big - Copper is like that but the rest of us get huge hair. Mom likes to keep it shorter though. big grin

Sorry, we have not heard of anything that causes hair to grow in fuller. Has anyone else?

I would never do this, I've heard that it's not good for the double coat. Plus it's supposed to naturally be cool in the summer and hot in the winter. Or again so I heard.

I have been shaved many times in a Lion cut and now mom wants to grow my hair back but both sides of my butt won't grow out anymore. I will never have hair like my primary picture again. frown

i have gotten shaved before many times and my hair has always grown back the same way.... so i'm not sure if it makes a difference
but mom says she has read many stories that it does

all i could say is that it has not changed my coat ... or nala's coat.... we do take Linatone and Fish oil to help our coat grow more beautiful
there's also salmon oil or grizzly oil that helps grow out your coat nice again

Poor Kiki cry

That is exactly how two big spots on my back look. The vet explained that dogs with a think undercoat - if it is cut incorrectly by a groomer, it does not grow back right because the hair follicle is messed up forever. confused

Oh well. Mom likes how we look shaved the best anyway.

Well, we posted in the Grooming Forum and one pup told us that it is Alopecia X or Black Skin disease which is what Maddy said she had as post clipping hair loss. In my case though, it may not be because of the shaving. The skin on my bald spots are very dark. It is a hair loss condition that is very common in Pomeranians and maybe due to a hormonal imbalance.

Mom is taking me to the vet today or next week to see what we can do about it. The doctor would have to test my blood to rule out thyroidism or Cushing disease first. Then taking melatonin may help. I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks for the info, Kiki. Sounds like not too much can be done about it in any case. cry

Maybe I should be checked for a thyroid problem.
