My mommy has been feeding me an organic homecooked diet for 6 years, and she also adds 250-500 mg Taurine a few times per week. It's an amino acid which needs to be in cat food, but doggies also need it for heart health.
When I was fed RAW (it didn't go well for me, unfortunately), my mommy would add in some RAW beef heart (hard to find in our area! ), because beef heart is a rich source of taurine. But once cooked, taurine is destroyed. So, when she switched me to homecooked, we had to add in a taurine in supplement form. The pharmacist told us that this form of taurine (in a capsule) is also heat sensitive, so if your pup is on a homecooked diet and you cook the food fresh, make sure you let the food cool down before you add the taurine to it.
Great thread!
