Getting Started With Gimp step #2 Dowloading Gimp

Getting Started With Gimp step #2 Downloading Gimp

[note- it may be easier if you highlight all this, then copy/paste it to your computer. Then you can follow along step by step.]

What is Gimp?
Gimp is a free software product that allows you to do fun things with your pet pictures!

Here's how:

Here is the link for Gimp

You will need to select a mirror (which means to pick a country. If that particular mirror doesn’t work, just go to the top of that page for another link that will be highlighted and say this is an alternative link ..press it and it will do it automatically. It will say its still in experimental stages, this only means they are always making improvements to Gimp.

Gimp..... Download and Save....just agree with it all.
When you unzip it and install it, go to your desktop and look for that grey gimp dog icon with a paintbrush in his mouth. If you see it there, you have Gimp and you’re ready to go!

Opening Your Gimp:
When you first open Gimp, only the page on the left with the tools will open. To see the work area with the picture on it, just open any picture and that window will appear.

Nina, one of our Administrators provides more great Gimp
info:

A while back I typed up the instructions for the new version of GIMP on how to make tubes, pictures, and how to work in layers. I took the old directions on making tubes, nose wiggle, wink and tail wag, and brought them up-to-date because the buttons in the new GIMP are in a different location from the old GIMP. There are also some directions on doing animations in JASCS. Those can be found on the 4shared site in the GRAPHING INSTRUCTION FILES folder. (It's capitalized that way in the list of folders on 4shared so they would spot it easily.) They are simple step-by-step directions, which I feel MOST would be able to follow.
