	Hi everyone.. my friend Jasper just found out today he has type 1 diabeties.. his mom noticed his eye yesterday looked very different and had a grey cast.. this happened just within a days time.. He's only 4 years old and is a chocolate lab.. hes going back to the vet tomorrow for more tests.. and of course his mom is very upset and worried.. does anyone have any experience with this? any information would be greatly appreciated.. thanks so much.. here is jaspers dogster number.. http://www.dogster.com/dogs/129286 Edited by author Thu Aug 28, '08 5:41pm PST

	Oh no!!!! Poor Jasper!!!! Thank dogness Mom isn't familiar with dogger diabetes, but we sure hope that he gets the help he needs to live a full and happy life!!!! 	thank you everyone. i have been reading and reading. I read Jasper everything to him last night. He is a very spoiled baby. I gave him his first shot this morning. Also since he has been getting shots he has been eating better. He was a big dog weighing 130 in 1 month he lost 30 lbs. and now weighs 100lbs. They still say he his a big dog but to me he looks tiny...LOL Just keep praying that his blood sugar goes down and stays stable and that his thyroid problem is related to the diabetes and can be controlled. He goes back to the vet to stay all day again on Tuesday for another curve. (to me the big curve is the curve taken out of your wallet..LOL) The vet will not allow me to stay all day to make sure he has water and to talk to him..LOL Thanks everybody! 	Hi jasper we are so glad you joined the group.. there are a lot of caring and supportive pups here... 30lbs is a lot to loose so quickly.. im sure he does look much different to you.. he sure is one cute lab though.. gotta love that big huge face of his.. we will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.. keep us up to date on whats happening with him...

	I am doing good. Atleast my mom and dad hopes and prays I am. I went for my 2nd curve on Tuesday and I have another one on friday. my thyroid test came back and I havehypothyroidism also. I also have to take antibiotics for a sore throat and cough. They moved my insulin to 17ml 2 times a day. But in my urine I am showing that I have no ketones in it. Which is a great sign. I can still see a little bit but my vision is going quickly. My blood sugar is still to high to read right now. So we still have a long way to go to get it down. This is so stressful for us. i try not to cry anymore but I think I have hit depression. It is so unfair to him. We love him so much and I hate seeing this happen and it is so unfair. i have read and read about it. Just please keep him your prayers. Thanks, Jasper and family

	Sounds like your pawrents are on the right track with your condition Hershey!!!!! Kudos to them for lovin gyou enough to take extra good care of you!!!!! As your licking your Momma's tears away, try to remind her that you're still very much alive and have lots of more livin' to do!!!!! A note from our Mom: It's very stressful on us pet owners to watch your beloved animal go thru a difficult time with health concerns. I had cried for an entire week straight while beginning treatment for Bailey holistically for an aggresive brain tumor. The thing that I learned to realize is our animals are so intuitive that they can sense our stress and it's harder for them to overcome their health situation. As soon as I made a mental decision to stop worrying and thinking the worst, Bailey started to respond positively to treatment. It certainly wasn't easy, but please be encouraged to help your dog by helping yourself NOT to stress. It doesn't help the situation, never has and never will in my experience!!!!! I'll say a prayer for you! p.s. the vet gave Bailey only a few weeks to live after diagnosis and I'm most certain that vet would have been right if I had remained in the depressed state I was in. Once she started responding to treatment (a day after I stopped the waterworks), she lived a comfortable, happy life for another 11 months, 3 weeks and 1 day. And I feel blessed to have had that extra time with my beloved Bailey girl!
