This isn't a neurotic fear, doggies, we actually need help with a legitimate threat this time. We need anyone with information about removing dogs from abusive situations to let us know how you did it, doggies and peeps.

For full details, read my diary entry titled: We need help, Dogster pals.

This is a serious situation, doggies, and my peeps are worried for my doggy pal, so we'd really appreciate any thoughts you might have on how to help my doggy friend escape from an abusive home with peeps who have a substance abuse problem. My peeps have involved the police, so far, but we might need to take things one step further. Anyone have any experience or thoughts with this? (Obviously not condoning any illegal activities, such as stealing the dog, although my peeps have thought about it... but we're law-abiding citizens here. So far.)

Thanks, doggies and peeps!

How aweful Ben. It sounds like you're taking all the necessary avenues. I have no further suggestions. Just contact whatever humane organizations are in your area. Have you tried calling Angel Memorial to see if they have any suggestions?

My Mom says you're doing the right things- police report, telling the adopting group and the humane society. Most groups will take a dog back in these circumstances. Are any charges being pressed? Animal abuse is a crime in most places. If the locals won't help, try the National ASPCA. If the dog's person has talked to your person, maybe offer to "help" with the dog by taking it for awhile (with owner's permission). Many bad owners never come to claim their animals. Unfortunately, they often get other animals...

If you have a chance to take the dog, go for it.

This is a last resort, obviously.

Ben,
Your people are much more law-abiding than my Mother, it seems. Good for them for taking the appropriate action!

Because I like to live on the edge, I'd take the dog. Yup. Steal it. "Borrow" it". Whatever.
Put it on the underground doggie railroad and get it the H-E-double hockey sticks outta there!
Keep us updated, I know the dogster higher ups don't approve of fundraising, but we can all help out on the sly, if moo-lah would help get the pup to a safe home way to go
Much love to your peeps!

Do you like how I volunteered all of us to donate money?!?
My bad. When I typed "we" I actually meant me and Max (and maybe Mother). These verbage faux paws are what happen when you outsource your typing to a human. shrug

Very uncouth, I realize.

Apologies from the Izmeister.

Heh. Thanks, pals!

I just realized that I posted a bit of a pupdate in my diary earlier, but neglected you all here. Silly me.

We've made a lot of phone calls (and left messages - apparently none of these organizations staff their phone numbers) and will continue to call them. We're also talking to all of the neighbors and dog park people, telling them what we saw and asking them to call the police and the aforementioned organizations if they spot any behavior like this again.

And for the folks who are looking for more immediate action - rest assured, all possibilities are being considered. In spite of the fact that dogs are legally 'property' in Massachusetts, and dognapping would count as theft of some sort, my people are evaluating all options. The microchip presents a bit of an issue. As I mentioned in my diary pupdate, one of my pals suggested offering to buy the dog off his owners, and we'll probably try that before we resort to any sort of illicit activity. Exhausting legal avenues first, and all that, as long as not too much time goes by.

Thanks for the thoughts and the support, pals! I'll keep you all pupdated, and if any of you discover any other good resources or suggestions, please let us know!

Ben, Mom says she'll take him into her rescue if you figure out how you're going to get him. She can even meet you half-way or organize a transport to get him to Jersey. Or of course, there's always an extra bedroom at Casa De Bull if you and your Mommy want to come visit.

What is this doggie underground you speak of?

I like the underground...there are usually rodents there!
