Hi Doggies

Just reading the forums today and again the Petsmart BS playban came up.

I sent a letter to their press /media about our opinion of the "ban" even though we would never take Roxie there for play.

It started me to thinking that we should send in our PETSMART cards cut-up and STOP spending money in that store. As I mentioned in my letter we are discretionary spenders and its over $1,000 dollars a year that we spend on treats, leashes, medicine shampoo etc (and well worth it thanks very much) . My point is why spend it with them and better yet, as a group we should send their cards BACK to them with a picture of the dog that have "branded" to vicious to play. Suddenly there are real faces to put with the ban and thanks very much I am a pittie cutie!

If 1o0 people did this, its a great press angle for the MDM but if 1000 or 2000 of us do it at the same time suddenly its a story on the evening news -the vick dogs are a great tie-in since they are doing so well (and this is their one year anniversary of being free of iccky vickky) vand suddenly we have a platform to announce any kind of 50 state action this group might want to take.

just a little press angle to think about.. what do you guys think?

We sent three back cut up that friends had given us (after finding out if they wanted them back) along with a letter explaining why we wouldn't be frequenting their stores, spending money on their products online as well as our decision to inform everyone we know about the discrimination they are implementing. I sent pictures of Mack, Tonks and Hermes playing as well as Tonks and Mack playing with an 18 month old baby (who is going to be a major league pitcher if his arm stays like it is). I look into the policies at every store I shop at regarding pets and do my best not to shop at any that practice discrimination. Hopefully bunches of us can make a difference here.

I don't shop at Petsmart anymore, but haven't sent my card back. I think it is a great idea!! You should talk to the pro bully sites and see if they wouldn't mention it to their memebers

Hi! We just joined the group, and found this thread... what's this about Petsmart and a play ban? We spend a small fortune there every year, so this really concerns me. Where can I find out more about it?

Regardless of what it's all about, I would urge anyone who is considering destroying and/or returning their gift cards to stop and think. Write a letter or something instead. Give the cards to your local rescue org! I don't know of any rescue group that doesn't desperately need all the help they can get!

NO dont send your gift cards back. SEND YOUR REWARDS CARD BACK. you wont need them if you dont shop there.

I did not know that this issue has reached the mainstream press already... LA TIMES just covered the contraversy. Of course the first comment comes from some poor pekinese owner whose dog was fatally injured while off-leash on a beach by a pit.

I hope the group can remember that it was ME the owner of pit who was BIT by the trainers dog.

I know of no day camps or other similar group activities that the bully breeds are allowed to be involved in around the St. Louis area. There was one day camp that did allow them but has since stopped because a smaller dog was supposedly attacked by a pit bull. An employee of the company told me that the smaller dog became aggressive and started the fight but that the pit bull injured the smaller dog and the pit bull was the one that got kicked out and the policy against bully breeds was started. I personally would never take a dog to a doggy day camp, play day or whatever. There is never enough staff to keep up with all of them. All it takes is one dog no matter what breed to start an altercation and it could become a free for all with multiple dogs/multiple breeds being injured/killed. I will not boycott Petsmart because Aria had wonderful training there and when we go shopping they are always wonderful to her. They also donate a lot of money and merchandise to the rescue groups in the St. Louis area. In my opinion they are looking out for the best interest of all dogs and all breeds.

I'm with Aria on that... I think Petsmart runs a pretty good business that serves the needs for a lot of pets, and their Petsmart Charities is a fantastic organization that has produced miracles, especially in the face of events like Hurricane Katrina.
Nobody has responded yet to Webster's request for more info on this, but until I learn otherwise, I'll remain convinced that Petsmart is under the restrictions imposed by their insurance carriers and simply has no choice as they cannot operate without liability coverage. If anything needs to be fought here, it's the insurers who impose such restrictions!

We didn't hear about this PetSmart ban. Does anyone have an article or anything. Not that I agree with it either way but that is my favorite store and I guess we would have to figure something else out.shrug
