Just to find out what the majority of our members are dealing with...

Would you say that your dog is primarily reactive/aggessive to people, other dogs, or both?

Monte's problem is other dogs. The more I learn with him, the more I see that he isn't so much aggressive as profoundly undersocialized. I think a lot of his lunging on leash isn't because he wants to hurt those dogs, but because he wants to get there and meet them so badly, so we just need to work on calmly approaching other dogs now, and obviously as always, the careful selection of any dogs I want to introduce him to.

I would not say he is aggressive/reactive towards people.

How 'bout you guys?

Becky also is primarily dog aggressive. However, I don't trust her around strange people outside or those acting oddly. Once the person has met her or is in my house she is fine and has zero problems with handling or guarding anything.
Conrad

PLEASE DON'T- LEAVE ME!!!!!

Conrad is decidedly non-aggressive but he is reactive towards some (mainly large and/or reactive/hyper) other dogs, as well as any novel objects that are moving quickly. He gets overstimulated by movement and has a high prey drive, and is also naturally on the fearful/anxious side so anything weird that moves fast elicits an "OMG WHAT IS THAT I MUST NOW FREAK OUT BECAUSE IT MAY OR MAY NOT BE SCARY AND/OR PREY AND I DON'T KNOW WHICH!" reaction. This is not a good reaction when the fast-moving weird object is a 3 year old child.

Conrad has never bitten a human, and the only dog he's ever fought with is his brother Marlowe, he goes to the dog park and for the most part does fine there. He's not allowed to interact with children under 6 any more though because there were two incidents of little kids acting kind of weird around him (they were scared of him) and him lunging at them (but not making contact). He has nipped a couple people (just grabbing the outside of a sleeve or pant-leg for a second) for running too close to him. Walking near him is fine, but running weirds him out unless he already knows you.

So basically, any sudden environmental change or threatening-acting novel stimulus gets a reaction from him of various degrees depending on the situation or stimulus--anything from just going in to Alert Mode to a full scale lunge/spin/whine/growl festival.

Buddy is fear reactive towards people. As a pup he was kept in a backyard and never intoduced to many poeple. He loves dogs and gets along great with every pup he meats.

Tobey's behaviour sounds a lot like Conrad's. He has been labelled as reactive aggressive.
When with me it is now a case of freak out/growl/lunge/whine/bark. However Tobey was in daycare where the progression of his behaviour wasn't told to me until he had gone after a dog or two and snapped at a couple of humans as well.

Duke is fear aggressive toward strangers sometimes, dogs most times, tv, his reflection, noises and movements. The neighbor kids left their bike in my driveway yesterday and and he reacted aggressively towards the stationary bikes(no people around). He also won't go in the kitchen if he can see the bubble wrap on my counter from a package I just got.

Chipper is....

dog Human aggressive: He growled at most new non-dog people up until about 6 months ago. People who made sharp movements (like throwing a ball or swinging a bat) he would bark/lunge at. If people are dog saavy and approach appropriately, he is OK. If people ignore him completely, he is accepting of them and he will respect them. He does not like to be touched by strangers.
dog Dog reactive: He is OK with most dogs. If they present to him, he loses it. If they bark/growl/invade his space, he reacts. If they mind their own business aside from a how-do-you-do and a few sniffs and they are nice and calm, he does just fine.
dog A gigantic resource guarder: Food, "his" house, "his" car, his mommy must be protected. NILIF has worked wonders here, but we are still working on it. He has improved 1000%.
dog Movement/Motion reactive: This is one of his minor issues. He does react to movement, especially in his peripheral vision. Sharp motions/movements from people, dogs, inanimate objects, joggers...cause him to react. His reaction is not generally dramatic, but he will jump and turn, present, growl or sometimes charge to investigate.

He has bitten a few times in the past two years, but never bad. He has never broken skin and they were all exactly the same. A quick strike, immediately back off, growls and shows teeth. All have had "obvious" warning signs in hindsight and all have involved a major resource. Mostly food.

A real gem

wave Ruby is dog aggressive. She has a brother, he is a beagle, but after she turned about 2 she started attacking him. There is usually blood involved. We have to keep them apart all the time. Which is really getting old. I really don't understand why this is happening. There are no warning signs that I can see. Hope to find some help here.

dog Dog Reactive - She has never flat-out attacked another dog (I've never allowed the situation to arise) but she will put on a display of growling, crying, barking, and generally making an ass of herself. She will fence fight. It takes her a few meetings to get used to a dog. She H-A-T-E-D Guster when I brought him home for about 2 weeks. She wouldn't go after him but if he got close to her she let him know she wasn't a fan. However, is totally OK with dogs smaller than her upon first meeting.

dog Fearful in new situations/around new people - Is getting better with this as time goes on. Used to go on walks and she'd be terrified of waving flags, statues, old people with fanny packs, bikes, parked cars - you name it. God forbid a person would approach her. Is not human aggressive in any way - just extremely afraid in new situations, and her eyes are constantly darting around - like she is in information overload. Definitely unsure of herself. Once she warms up to a person she doesn't forget them and is one of the most affectionate dogs I have ever met.

Im really not sure, but my pup fits Conrads funny verbalization of his reaction. Jet is aggressive or reactive primarily to other dogs and cautious of people. But he did react to a waving flag.
