OK folks, give me the truth about BGs and barking. Is it a puppy phase and she'll grow out of it? Once a barker ... always a barker? Training tips? Molly barks when she hears something like the dishwasher turning on, a dog slurping water, dog getting up and walking, door opening ... She also barks when someone approaches me, mostly males but sometime females, these are people she knows. If she's in my lap, even one of our other dogs approaching will set her off. And of course, if someone comes into our house. Help! shrug

Wow that is alot of barking. Emmett only barks when he is playing with the cats or when he hears the mailman. Otherwise, not a peep. I always wondered about his lack of barking.

Molly, I don't know much about all BG, but Kuma does not bark very much. I have noticed that Kuma follows our mood at home. If we are all calm, he stays calm. Sometime, when we hear some sort of noise, he will look at me. If I just continue doing what I'm doing, he will just continue doing what he is doing. laugh out loud He used to become agitated and start barking when I used the coffee grinder and the blender. I've had to tell him, "No". He would look at me and I would return with a look that say, "No problem, I've got it under control, here, buddy." He will calm down. If he continues, I do this shh, and he somehow understands that.

On the other, if something makes me react, such as my phone, Kuma will follow suit.

Beardsley barks when he hears the wind blow. Or a car down the street. Or a kid laugh two houses away....

I met with a PetsMart trainer yesterday. He said I need to create a consequence for her barking behavior. Like a 30 second time out, squirt with water, shake can of coins. Rather than me just telling her to be quiet with no consequence.
We also discussed her bullying our 9 year old yorkie. He said I should intervene and not let her do that. Suggested getting her out to a doggie park to get some of her energy out.

Guess what? I don't like water getting squirted in my face! So, I'm not barking much at all anymore. Mom & Dad are really pleased. I don't know why they don't like me barking.shrug

Jefe only barks when we're playing or at the mail lady. But he runs up to hear and asks her to pet him too. He really never barked that much. Early is still to young, he's only 3.5 months, but so far he only barks when he's playing with Jefe.

Henry loves to bark outside. I am constantly running out there to quiet him or bring him back in. We live on a corner, so he barks at everyone walking by, dogs walking by, neighbor dogs, squirrels, the wind. He throws his head in the air and lets out a bark/howl.

We tried the squirt bottle -it made him mad and he challenged it with more barking. Same with the can of pennies!

Grommet (a mix with strong Griff traits) hears everything and would bark at every noise if we let him. He get's carried away sometimes and we have to bring him back to earth with a minor correction. Nothing too severe or under the bed he goes - so, so sensitive!
