But it is very possible that I have Fanconi Syndrome. For the past five weeks mummy and the vet have been trying to find out what's wrong with me (high level of glucose in urine and trace of blood in urine but blood work normal) cos mummy noticed I was drinking and peeing loads more than normal. Antibiotics have not cleard up the blood in pee. Last two urine tests showed lower level of glucose but still high.

As so many vets don't know about Fanconi Syndrome mummy has today sent off my pee to the University of Pennsylvania Vet Medicine School - they are very big into this syndrome on particular. Got to wait about three weeks though for results.

Is there anything specific that I should be eating to try to manage this because I am sure this is what I have?

Thanks sweetieshug

Oh Rosie - I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well Sweetie! hug hug hug If it turns out you do have Fanconi Syndrome, a high protien diet of mammal meats is best. Unless you have renal failure, then lower protien is better - your urine and blood tests will reveal alot.
Keep us all posted on the results as you can and know our paws are crossed for you! hug

Thanks sweetie. Mummy has been feeding me more red meat lately. I don't eat that much cos I am only little but I really do love dry fried steak, rare in the middle. Mummy is very happy that I am a chihuahua and not a Great Dane!

crycry It is Fanconi Syndrome and mummy is crying now crycry

Although they can't be sure is it acquired Fanconi Syndrome they believe it will be due to the number of dogs showing this after eating chicken jerky treats for a length of time (even though I have never, ever eaten any of the recalled treats)

"In Sept 2007 The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), who work in the field of veterinary nephrology and urology, had become aware of an unusual number of dogs with very similar presenting complaints and clinico-pathologic testing results associated with the ingestion of jerky treats from a variety of
brands."

Mummy is very upset but at least she knows now!cry
