Ok, there doesn't seem to be much action in this forum and yet it's a shame cause I think it could be useful. So here is a question for everyone...

Do you belong to a recognized organization for therapy dog? And if so, which one? Why did you pick that one?

There are lots of good links on the group links. I recommend the Delta Pet Partners website, lots of good, detailed information.

I'm certified through St. John Ambulance. I chose it just out of chance and opportunity. I was trying to get Gio into nursing homes and retirement centers without certification but ran into trouble getting recreation coordinators to take me seriously without any organization backing me. I had told friends in the dog community that I was interested in therapy work with Gio, so when one heard about a test date in a city about 2.5 hours from here, they sent the information my way and I was registered for testing the next day!

I really like St. John Ambulance. I operation for 125 years, they aren't an organization solely dedicated to therapy dog, but also offer other health training and other volunteer opportunities. As such, they are a well known presence in the community ... providing first aid services at local events and gatherings, teaching courses on first aid, youth programs, and other health related programs, etc.

Hi everyone I agree. Im with Therapy dogs corp. I believe.
I am back in traing a gain with puppy #2 she is just in beyone puppy class and then we start our therapy trainging. WHew its hard training a second dog cause the first one is right up there doing the instructions. LOL by the time the second puppy gets it the first dog is like hey dont i get a treat. but she is already cert. we do the excerises without treats. but now i have to go back to them.
our group is also now starting for hospice visits.i would be interested in more intense care units trying to help people with some healing. not sure if they have that yet.

We live in Alaska and don't have the options and opportunities many of ou have...but we are starting puppy classes soon! I am just here to learn from others who are already doing the jobs. I have been visiting an assisted livivng home already toget used o the smells and sounds..I even got to sit in a wheelchair! It was fun. I am not afriad of anything...is that a good thingbig grin

Hi! I'm new, so I'll be the one to answer. My big 'sister' Muppet and I are both members of a local SF Bay area group called "Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services". In addition, Muppet is a Delta Pet Partner. I'm too young to even get tested for that, being only 10 months old! I'm sort of 'in training' still - I'm learning the ropes, although they registered me a couple of months ago. Sometimes the new places make me a bit nervous, and I watch Muppet a lot to see what she does. (She sleeps on beds with elderly humans. She's easy to emulate...)

Hi everyonewave I'm a Delta Society Pet Partner too. I love the kids I work with...in fact every kid I see...i believe needs to pet me...or at least say hilaugh out loud

Last week one of the kids that reads too me told his teacher (and she told mom), "But I haven't read with Amonia for long time." Mom thought that was pretty darn cute.

Anyway, I love to read fun or touching stories of us therapy petsway to go

THIS IS A VERY SLOW FORUM, IT COULD BE LOTS OF FUN BUT IT SEEMS EITHER PUPS ARENT SIGNING INTO THIS GROUP OR IT WAS TO SLOW AND THEY DONT BOTHER.
I DO BELONG TO THERAPY DOGS INTERNATIONAL. I DO THERAPY VISITS WITH OUR LOCAL DOG TRAINING CLUB. ITS NICE TO GO AS A GROUP SO THERE IS MORE DOGS TO VISIT WITH THE PATIENTS.
