Chey came back as probably a carrier

I came back as probably affectedcry

Momma was upset at first but Auntie L got her feeling better. We will test again when they have a true DNA test and if I should get it, I get it, we'll deal with it. Mom says she WILL get those pills down my throat.

I guess it would be easier if I liked food and ate anything.... like Chey.....but I am here to make Mom's life difficult laugh out loud

Apache, you are in some wonderful and capable hands!! I promise you that when it comes to our health, these Moms are absolutely relentless! And I know your Momma will figure this out when/IF the time comes. You know all your pals will be here for you cheering you on and offering support in any way we can! I know Auntie L. well enough to know that she'll make you fancy steaks everyday if that's what it takes to get you to take meds! BIG hugs to your Pack!!! hug hug hug hug

From Momma L. -
From my experience with Fanconi so far, I've come to the realization that it changes the hoomans world so much more than it affects the pup's life. And I honestly believe that taking care of my little man has strengthened a bond with him that I never would have believed could have gotten any stonger. There's worry and fear and it's scary and devestating, but it's do-able - and you also come to realize that there are many, many worse things that you could be facing with your furkid. hug hug hug hug hug Lotsa love to you guys and many, many hugs!!!! hug hug hug

hughughug Who knows, by the time Apache may be affected, Fanconi could be more managable. Look at the strides that are being made!

I can see him at the ripe old age of 15, sitting in the lounge chair, with the remote in his paw, tuned to ESPN................

We are just seeing this....Mom has been making up for lost time at work since we got back. We are so sorry that Apache may some day be afflicted, but this is a good early warning system. Fanconi is a late onset disorder so you can still look forward to normal kidney funtion for quite some time...and you can start hiding "placebos" in good treats now so that medicating later will be easier. We are sad that Fanconi is a probability in your lives, but are also blessed that there is such a good treatment protocol in place.
Did they suggest that you retest later as the testing system is more evolved? This is still in the early stages. I would see it as a "heads up" to be religious about test stripping and breeding decisions but to be honest I will cross all fingers, toes, paws and tails that Apache
doesn't ever start spilling sugar......
Sending a million hugs....I know how hard this hit home.

Still waiting on our results....and biting our nails

Hey Apache and Mom...what Stormie's Mom said is so right. We had a sweet girl wif Fanconi and she didn't ever seem to realize she was "different" or sick. She ate ice cream wif her medications and did all the same activities as the rest of us. Her life was wonderful and long...it's the Moms that have to treat us that bear the brunt of it wif worrying about us....Sending you a high five Bud!way to go

You guys make me feel all warm and fuzzybig grin Thanks so much!

We are keeping everything as is and will wait until they have an actual DNA test to run before anything gets changed. ..read snip, snip frown Momma will start strip testing me early just to make sure she has a routine going and even though Chey shows as a carrier she will continue to be strip tested.

Bakari...yes, they do say that this test is not completely accurate and hope you will retest when they have a fully reliable DNA test.

We are hoping my eating habits change, people say picky eaters usually do around 2-3 years old. That seems to be Momma's biggest worry at this point.

We love you all and knowing that you're all there for us should the time come that I do test positive means the world to us.
