OK so I really like that Madea setup this group. Lets give people an idea of what we use these collars for....I'll start.

My dogs have this issue where when they come in from outside a few like to bark if I am not in the room with them. I have used the collar to correct them for this behavior. It took me out of the equation....I didn't have to be visible to correct.

Anyone else what to share.

I first starting using the collar to correct Madea of her digging. We could see her from the window give her a correction while she is doing the unwanted behavior with out tippering her off that we are coming by opening the door. We don't have to chase her around the yard even though she knows how to sit and stay when she knows she's in trouble she like to high tail it out of the area.

Now we are using it for agility and obedience, walking and running off the leash. I have to run to stay fit for the military and I want her to be my running buddy with out having to worry about her pulling my arm off. She does well on the gentle leader but once you try to walk her on by the collar she pulls. She's doing very well for the most part now we only use the vibrate tone. dancing

Right now place and up.

The biggest help was that I can now walk him with out him going nuts. He doesn't really react to leash corrections and would not care for treats so the ecollar lent me his attention.

Before the coller, Roxy looked like a wild rabbit running around the neighbor hood. With collar she stays ONLY in our yard. She has learned basic command by this. Once the collar is on...she knows. BUT once the collar is off SHE KNOWS and shoots out the front door. We are still in the training process.
We have and Innotek collar. I'd recommend it to anyone.

If you can include invisible fence in 'remote collar training' I have all of my dogs trained to stay in the yard (5 acres with a pond) and out of the living room. We spend most of our time in the family room anyway. That way relatives and guests with babies that aren't as in love with our dogs as we are, can sit undisturbed.

I left the collars on the dogs up to 2 weeks in the house and never had to put them on again. When I installed the invisable fence outside I trained them according to instructions and I don't think they got a correction more than once, if that, because they knew the warning sound and it was enough. They very seldom wear the collars outside anymore either and lately my biggest prey drive furbaby chased a squirrel without her collar on. She stopped before she got to the boundry.
6 years ago I had a dog get hit in front of the house on the road and now I never have to worry about that.

Lately, I used a collar to stop one from digging in the same spot over and over despite several attempts to correct her. I only used the warning twice and she totally quit the digging. She doesn't know I had anything to do with it.

All the dogs respond well to regular reward training as far as sit, stay, leave it, and come. I've never used a collar for those things. I guess I wouldn't know how.

This is what I'm talking about.......Good sharing folks. applauseapplause

It gives a good baseline of people's comfort level with the devices and also training levels.

Keep them coming....

I use the collar for reinforcing the "come" command. In the past I had Dalmatians that never would come back off leash. They knew they were off leash and knew that they didn't have to come. Treats, toys, and praise was bogus to them. Jaeger was the same way, except that when he'd run off, he'd run all the way back home! The shock collar has given him the freedom that I never did give to my Dalmatians- and Jaeger loves it snoopy

Yeah Cookie, I think I will open the group up to people who use invisible fences I've seen a few forms where people didn't know how to introduce their dog to the fence correctly and now the god is afraid to go outside so I think you would be an asset to the group if you have been using it for a while you might be able to give some other people who are new to underground fences some advise.

Hi,
I started using the ecollar on Jael 2 years ago, right after the pitbull ban came into effect in Ontario. I had little control over Jael when I took her out for walks in the city, she was easily distracted and red-zoned with aggression when she saw other dogs. She was 55 lbs of muscle and could easily drag me down the street if I didn't have a haltie on. I met a trainer through Sit Means Sit and learned how to use the remote collar as a positive tool to teach Jael to pay attention to me. I do not use it to give corrections really, I use it to tell her what I'd like her to do. It's been wonderful and now I feel more in control, more confident, and she's so much happier now that she knows what is wanted from her. With the collar we've perfected sit (at a distance), down (at a distance), come, place, heel, up (jump up), and speak. For tricks like play dead and paw, I don't use the collar because they aren't needed commands to really save her life. What I've appreciated most out of this kind of training is that I can go anywhere with my dog and communicate to her using the ecollar. I'm not restrained by using a leash and my strength alone, we've found a way to understand and communicate with eachother. What more can I say, love it!
