Millie

Wanna go for a- walk?

Hello. I am a new bassador owner... I got my Millie from a high-kill shelter down here in NC where she and her new pups were all going to be put down. Well, the second I saw her cute little face and sausage body I knew that couldn't happen, and I ended up with not only her, but one of her pups as well (the others all made it too!). Since I'm new to the breed, I was wondering if they can swim. I wouldn't think so because I grew up with a basset and she definitely could not swim, but I know labs love water... so... any experience with this? Are those little legs enough to keep them afloat?

I like me just- the way I am!

Hi Millie, my name is Charlie. I went for a walk on Sunday and when my mom took me near the lake I did not even try to go in. I think she was surprised because she thought I would like to swim. I'm not sure if I can swim but I didn't want to try on Sunday!

We just picked up Bella a couple weeks ago. I haven't had her out to the lake yet, but our Basset Shelby is quite a swimmer. The only thing is she hates water. Bella has jumped into every puddle she's seen. So I think she'll be fine. Good luck and let me know how she does.

I am a year old and I have been in the water up to my belly and my dad threw me in the pond a few times. so I can swim. But it wasn't until last weekend when they took me to the dog beach that I actually went in. It was because all the dogs looked like they were having so much fun chasing balls so I just followed them and before I knew it I was swimming!! It was so much fun, so it is possible but it took me some timesnoopy
Jenny

This dog can- fly.

Jenny prefers to do what I call "be a hippo". She kind of lays in the water and sometimes floats a little, but she like to stick her mouth in the water and bite at the water and pull small aquatic plants up. When she was a puppy she used to snorkle in her water bowl, but it was kind of messy so it was discouraged.

Sandy mostly wades. Like a true lab she loves water but she doesn't feel entirely comfortable when her feet don't reach the ground anymore. If strongly motivated enough (like if she wants to get to something in the water or is excited) she will swim though.

Women love me!

Goofy jumped in a pond in Central Park going after some ducks, and the look of sheer panic on his face was priceless as he realized that he was sinking. Most bassadors are just too darn top heavy to swim!

Lola LOVES to swim. We discovered this the first night we had her. We thought she would be a very calm and relaxed dog after her surgery, but she managed to run out the house and jump in the pond. Since then she finds it hard to keep out of water. She loves to jump in bath tubs at any given chance, as well as pools, etc.

If I can reach- it I can eat it

Wow your Millie looks just like my Lucy! Lucy has been a swimmer since she was a little pup. She even will go in lakes in the winter when they are not frozen. Did they have any more Bassadors when you picked up Millie?
