Dr. Talker,

I recently lost part of a toe in an accident. I am worried that it makes me look funny. I don't want to be treated different because I have 19.5 toes instead of 20.

Should I be doing anything special to make sure I still fit in?

This will actually give you an unfair advantage because everyone will be concerned about your accident and will want to give you extra attention and loving.

Keyah my dear, you are more than your missing toe. Don't focus on what you don't have--focus on what you do have. Your missing toe makes you unique and it gives you character. Think of all the attention you will get.

Oh but wait. Perhaps attention is not what you want. Oh I see now. This is making sense to me now. Hmmmm, I know you're a shy girl and you like to stay in the background. It's understandable considering you have a brother who is usually the one stealing the show, right? Hmmmm, you're not use to getting all the attention.

I think your missing toe should now be looked on as a way for you to get some attention of your own. Keyah, step up into the lime light and shine. Use your missing toe as a way to practice not not being so shy. Let others ask you about how you lost your toe. Make it exciting and adventurous. Take center stage Keyah! Come on!

red facered faceYou may be right, Dr. Talker. Mom noticed that I picked the nice healing wound back open today. Of course, she didn't notice until I sat on her lap and left blood stains on her shirt and jeans. I should find a better way to get attention.
