Hi Lexie!

My vet told my human that I should probably wear a sweater in the winter time because of my smooth coat. I love wearing my sweater and my human bought it for me at PetsMart - I actually have two sweaters! One is purple with argyle plaid and the other is pink with argyle plaid because I'm a girl!

I have a couple of coats.

But it is really a judgement call. How cold is it? What is the weather like? How old am I? What is my health like?

Mom's know their babies and can determine during a walk whether or not a coat should be warn the next time by seeing how you do.

My mom swore she'd never be one of 'those' froo froo dog owners that dresses them up like fashion accessories.

But, I was shivering a lot. Then mom was reminded about an overlooked fact of us kinds of dogs that don't shed a lot and have hair more than fur.

We lose body heat faster and are more susceptible to pneumonia.

So, my mom had to swallow her pride and get me sweaters and she went ahead and also bought a snow coat.

My mom was worried I would fight with her when she tried to put them on, but I'm such a good boy I totally co-operated. I look pretty sharp in my rugby shirt, and I like my blue argoyle too. I like it even better when that cold wind's blowing and I get to go on longer walks with my mom cause I don't get as cold. way to go

If you don't want to spend big bucks on dog clothes, you can get a pattern and take it to your local fabric store. Lotsa times there's people who can sew on staff or there's a bulletin board of seamstresses who can make you coats and stuff a little cheaper.

Of course I have many coats and sweater. With my back shaved I get cold and shiver. I like my sweaters, shirts, tanks, pj's and coats. It does get cold in Texas.

I have a sweater that I wear on special occasions, but I am NEVER cold. Mom thinks I was a husky in another life, I love the snow. I am part Yorkie though so my fur feels different from other Schnauzers.

When I started to shiver in the barn, mom & dad broke down and got me a winter coat. Now I'm nice and toasty when they're in the barn completing chores.

I never did like the rain... I would shake often... sooo... off they went to get me a rain coat... now my ears don't get wet so it doesn't trigger my response to shake so often...

When it's not that cold or the rain isn't freezing rain ~~ I prefer the freedom to roam in the natural...

Again, as others have said, it truly is a judgement call with trial and error...
