My mommy read this in a book called "Poodles: A Complete Pet Owner's Manual":
"Though usually quite friendly, poodles can also sometimes be aloof with strangers. There are countless poodle stories about a dog that absolutely ignored someone until it was clear to it that this person was worthy of acceptance."
Mommi wants to know if any of you poodles have ever acted and way and would like to hear stories of how some of you ignored/accepted people!

I have the exact opposite problem, I love people so much I wont leave them alone. The newer the better, mom cant get me to stop jumping up and down uncontrollably... I jump so high I can lick faces! I jump until somone walks in t he door, until they leave, then I take a nap.

I am stuck up on other occasions though, such as if someone wants me to join them in the wet grass after it rains... I am too good to get my feet wet! smile

I agree, I love people! Especially new people I have never met before! I love it when all the attention evolves around me and I love to give kisses!

Stuck up? whats that?

I know no stranger, everyone is my friend. When the people come to see me (right? they all come for me!) I let them know just how much I have missed them.

Now wait.... if momma is holding me I guess I do get a snooty about having to be bothered. I just shut my eyes and enjoy the scraches and pets.

My momma says that is Stuck up not shuck pup oops and nope aint got it!!

I looooovvvveee all the people and mommy (Allie) and momma (human mom) tell me to mind my manners when we meet new people. cheer

Well I have to agree at my house everypup is welcomewink and I know no stranger. But...

If I am out and about town, I will make you my friend when I feel like it. Maybe its because I don't want strangers to mess up my poodle-do? I mean, does your human like it if a stranger tries to mess with their hair?thinking But once I have decided that they are my friend, that's it! They are friends for life!hug

I wait for my Mom to tell me to "go and say hi," unless I know the person. I wait until It is ok to approach. I am not shy, just wait for my cue to greet. I am a therapy dog and have been to hospitals, elementary schools, and nursing homes. Everyone is always amazed at my go say hi command. I give air kisses--don't actually lick unless it is mommy. I also give hugs and snuggles. My Big brother, Chaz, a standard, is a bit shy, though and I think that it is because he is going through his teenage scardy-cat phase.

It is normal for us poos to choose whom we love. I take my cues from Mom and I am a bit careful with whom I approach, especially loud men and kids--I look to her and make sure that it is what she wants--then she gives me the command. A girl can't be too careful, but what do you expect? I AM the queen--oh, and I love Mommie best, cause she rescued me!

Thank you all you dear poos for responding. I love my mommi but i am skittish around other people unless I know them. If they are a stranger, i will go and hide. i came from a puppy mill and they weren't very nice to me there, so i am afraid of other dogs and peoples. i just know i love my mommi and my gramma. Oh, and i love Uncle Cambrian, too. He's my gramma's dog. He's old, but he's funny.

I'm afraid that I'm one of the poodles that give us the "stuck up" reputation. I love my Mommy and Daddy, and I tolerate my brothers, but I don't like other people much at all. If I'm out in my yard, I bark at anyone who walks by. Mommy says I'm territorial. When I'm places other than home, I don't bark at people, and I never bite. I simply ignore everyone. I don't like going out of my yard, so Mommy only takes me to the vet or groomer. I'm good for them, but I shake a lot and can't wait to go back home. Oh, and I hate-hate-hate the car!
