Oliver and I eat Canidae. However Oliver is a picky eater and my dad gets upset when he doesn't eat so we usually get a spoonful of people food on top. My mom makes our treats. Our favorites are the wheat free salmon ones and the banana bites. We give them to our friends at the beach and they seem to like them too.

Although we now know that Science Diet isn't the best quality food on the market, we've decided to leave our very healthy dogs alone regarding their food. We inquired on the food forums here, talked with the knowledgeable manager of the local pet store, & asked our vet. All said we could change to a brand known to be more nutritious, but since they are all doing so well - healthy, perfect weight, lots of energy, etc., why mess with success!?!?

All 3 dogs eat Science Diet kibble (Homer & Bobbi get the light version & Justy gets original - she's so much younger) for dinner. They each get 1/3 of a large can of Pedigree just for the taste & moistness with their dinner, too. We don't really count it as their main nutrition.

All 3 dogs also get an Old Mother Hubbard's large biscuit in the morning & after dinner (high nutrition, natural ingredients), & 3 baby carrots in the morning, too - keeps teeth clean. We also substitute thick pieces of dehydrated sweet potato for their after dinner teeth cleaning treat every couple of days. The sweet pototoes & the carrots have lots of vitamin A for the older eyes of 2 of the dogs plus are packed with anti-oxidants - very healthy.

We use Old Mother Hubbard's tiny biscuits for training/games treats.

Bailey gets Purina Pro Plan biscuits and Butch black label dog roll.

Honey, you can order Canidae online in New Zealand. I heard so much about it I decided to look into it as a possible alternative.

Bluebell eats Wellness Kibble (1/2 cup a day). I rotate the protein every couple of bags. On top of that she gets a smattering of freeze dried raw food by Wysong, and a spoonful of live culture yogurt. She snacks of raw fruits and veggies and Innova biscuits.

Dad only gives me home cooked meals and says it is really easy once you do a bit of research. Once a week he makes up a great big batch, portions it and freezes it. He says I need protein so I get a variety of ground beef, chicken, fish and organ meat. He mixes it with veggies, brown rice, potatoes or pasta. He doesn't need to add any spices or anything fancy. It's a lot cheaper and safer than commercially produced pet foods. I still get a supplement everyday and a calcium pill. It is yummy.
