GOOD with kids, cats and other dogs

STORY: Monk is a sweet and playful Boxer/German Shepard mix. He loves everyone and plays with all dogs - big or small. How did Monk get such an unusual name, you ask? Maybe it was because he was neutered young and is now committed to a life of celibacy? Not so much, Monk is short for Monkey - and this little boy truly is a monkey. He will entertain you with his antics and leave you rolling on the ground in laughter. You see, Monk is a born comedian. Granted, his humor is more slapstick then ethereal, but he still gets his laugh. Does your life need a little excitement and a lot of laughs? Then consider Monk as the new addition to your home and family.

GOOD with kids and other dogs

STORY: Here is her story: I had a sale about a month ago and a older gentleman around eighty stopped by. He saw that I had dogs and asked if I could give his dog a home. I told him there was no way I could have another dog. Then he told me the story. I guess he rescued the dog from a bad situation. When he got her she was only 10 weeks old and was nearly starved to death. He nursed her back to health and soon found out she was also blind. He said that he was too old to take proper care of her and wanted to find her a good home. So I gave him some of the numbers of the local rescues. However, he called me on May 5th and said he still needing to find her a home. He did not want to work with the rescues because he thought they were crazy that they was going to find her a indoor home. His generation thinks dogs should be outside only. I asked him if I could stop by, so I could meet the dog. I went by there on Thursday, May 8th to see the condition the dog was in. Also, the guy said she is having a problem bitting, so I wanted to see for myself the problem. I found out she is not bitting aggressively but trying to see with her mouth, which could be corrected easily and does not cause pain. Even though he seems to care deeply for this dog, she is tied to a stake in the mud. He said she rarely gets attention because he is too old and has not have the ability to take care of her the right way. He thinks she is too hyper to be in the house. However, I told him with the proper exercise she could be a good house dog. I told him I could find a low cost clinic to get her fixed and he said he was thinking of having her have puppies so she can enjoy them and would not be so lonely. I told him, please no. He also thinks it would be a bad idea to spray her because that she is so active that she would tear the incision. He is not a bad guy, just a old guy that knows no better and is in bad health. He is real concern for this dog and can see the tears in his eyes when he talks about her. He nursed her back to health, so he cares deeply for her. This dog needs a loving and safe home, so she can live a normal life despite her disability. She is sociable and loves people. She is ok with other dogs but several at one time can be overwhelming to her. She needs some one that has the time and patient to teach her.hamster dance

GOOD with cats and other dogs

STORY:
He is a really sweet dog who just wants to be loved and spoiled and is looking for his perfect home. It may take him some time to get comfortable but when he does he turns into a love bug and just wants to be with you. He loves to go for walks and to play with toys he is also fine with being dressed up ;p. Please consider first and foremost that he is a terrier and can remain hyper his entire life, due to his squished face he needs to be an indoor dog he can over heat and start to pant in the heat. He will be fine in an apartment/condo as long as you take regular walks and take him out every so often for bathroom breaks, if you have a fenced yard even better he loves to run around in the front yard and back yard. So if you are looking for an active, loving dog to spoil please consider him.

Spike is a five year old, gorgeous brown brindle boy with the most soulful, big brown eyes. His previous family had young children and were no longer able to devote enough time to him, so they turned Spike over to rescue in hopes of giving him a better life. Spike is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm and fecal tested (negative), and microchipped. He's also crate and doggie-door trained. Spike can be a little shy at first but once he warms up, he becomes very attached. He gets a bit pushed out of shape if he feels that someone else is encroaching on his "person", so we'd ideally like to find him a home with a single person who has no children. Spike has gotten along fine with his foster doggie friends and enjoys going to dog parks. He also gets along with cats. Can you be Spike's "one and only"?hug

GOOD with children, cats and other dogs

STORY: I was found fathers day by a nice lady who was walking her dog. She took me to her house and let me in the backyard and started feeding me and talking me for walks. Then one day I was loaded into the car and was taken to the vet to be scanned for a microchip. I did have one so the nice lady contacted my owners and told them they had me. My former owner said that they didn't want me anymore because I kept escaping from them. I was only running away from them because I didn't get enough attention and walks though. Anyway, when the nice lady heard that she took me back to her house and I have been in her backyard for about a week now.

I still need to find my forever home. The nice lady who has taken me in can't keep me permanently because I'm to big for her. I need a home where I can be an indoor dog and get walked regularly. I absolutely love kids and do well with other dogs and cats. I do have a little problem with dashing out the door if it's left open but the nice lady is working on that.hamster dance

July 20, 2008: LILA plus 7 puppies

Breed: Beagle/Dachsund
Gender: Females and Males
Age: Mom is 6 years and pups were born May 1
Location: Adoptable within 100 miles of Austin TX and 200 miles in special circumstances

STORY: Lila was surrendered by a family that had twenty Dachshund mixes. Lila, a Beagle/Dachshund mix, was one of their original two dogs, the other being a male Dachshund. They had puppies, then their puppies had puppies, and then their puppies had puppies, and so on. They placed many of the dogs but before they knew it they had twenty dogs, and Lila was due with her seventh litter. The family sold their property, forcing them to rehome fifteen of their dogs. Several rescue organizations took in six of the dogs. Lila and eight others, not including her puppies that were later born, were placed in Jack's Angels' foster homes. Despite being hugely pregnant and suffering from skin and ear infections, Lila had maintained her happy outlook on life. On May 1, 2008, ten days after Lila arrived at her foster home, she delivered seven puppies. The puppies were very small and weak. With round the clock care, including heat support and tube feedings, four of her puppies survived. As they grew stronger, Lila took over and has been a wonderful Mommy.

Our adoption are usually restricted to within 100 miles of Austin, TX. Exceptions will only be considered, under the right circumstances, to applicants within a 200 mile radius of Austin, TX. Please visit our website -- http://www.jack.petfinder.com -- for information about our adoption process and requirements.hamster dance

July 27, 2008: BROOKE

Breed: German Shepherd
Gender: Female
Age: Senior - 8 years old
Location: Virginia

Forum Thread Posting dated July 24, 2008

STORY: Brooke is neither my dog nor is she with me. She is a very special lady in need of a loving home and it is my dearest desire to help her, although here we are states apart. Brooke is in Virginia, as is too a very special lady who saw fit to pull Brooke from a kill shelter when she had only two days left. This is a very sad story. Brook is a senior girl and is someone's lost pet. She is tall, feminine and beautifully gaited, and yet this amazing GSD was found living on the streets, away from her couch and her faithful front door sentry, now trying to fend for herself and was just a bag of bones. She still is. The loving foster is getting her to eat now, but at the shelter, for however emaciated she was, food was not in her interest (she was not withdrawn.....the shelter staff ADORED her....she merely was too upset about her family to bother with something so trivial as eating food). She misses her family, she misses her home. She still looks for them now. A German Shepherd's heart and reason is its family, and that heart is one of duty. I am sure she thinks she failed them. She worries over them now because there is no one to care for and protect them. And yet now she receives the kindness of a special stranger and is coming back to her wholeness. She is fidelity and heart and kindness....everything German Shepherd. I do not want her to age and wither with a broken heart. Please - many times those not thinking of adding another dog can be swayed into thinking about a senior. They come with far less of the baggage and far less of the challenges and settle in rapidly. Brooke deserves a family to care for and to sentry. She needs to know she is needed and responsible for looking after a family of her own. She is a German Shepherd....such matters are their reason for everything. Please give her back her reason and home. Brooke's lost owner was responsible enough to have her spayed in the past and she is heartworm negative. UTD on all shots.

Bio:
Brooke is an absolute poster gal for the adoptable senior. Despite her starving condition, she will take a treat from the hand gingerly and has no food bowl aggression whatsoever....you can place your hand straight in her bowl. She is VERY friendly, loves to give kisses, and she loves to "talk"....which German Shepherds are very prone to do. The shelter seemed to think she was good with children as well. She has a calm demeanor and is a mannerly lady...good in the bath, good being groomed. She will warn strange dogs, barking and clapping her teeth together (she is a female after all and will have her opinions), but she also is a LADY and now rests quietly together with her foster's two dogs, another German Shepherd and a Lhasa Apso. She is a readymade dog who only needs you to open your door and your heart. Do that for her now, and she will sentry your own forever. Please let us all work together, and let Brooke be welcomed home!

Breed: Standard Schnauzer/Cocker Spaniel
Gender: Male
Age: 5 years old
Location: not known

RESTRICTIONS: He should be the only pup in the home.

Forum Thread Posting dated August 2, 2008

STORY: His original owners got him as a puppy from a friend. About 3 years ago the husband was stationed in Japan and so the wife went with him. At first they weren't sure how long they would be gone and asked me to watch the dogs for them. (chewy was their other dog, but unfortunately chewy passed away) The owners emailed only 4 months after being gone and asked me to find homes for them. I tried for almost a year to find them homes but couldnt find it in me to let someone else walk/drive away with them. Chewy died in a case of protecting his brother(harvey and chewy are really related but they acted like it) from a stray dog that showed up while i was in the shower. Both the stray dog and chewy died and harvey only had a small scar on his leg. Harvey has been very sullen since then and doesnt like other dogs. He needs a good and loving home because i am heading off for college and cannot keep him.

August 17, 2008: CUBBY

Breed: Breed Unknown
Gender: Male
Age: 3 months old
Location: Unknown - please contact via p-mail

Forum Thread Posting dated August 16, 2008

STORY: Cubby was rescued from a horrible kill shelter that Foster Mom calls the "9th Circle of Hell." It's a shelter next to a prison in a rural parish. Foster Mom was sent to do an investigation because the shelter has received a lot of complaints. The place will be in her nightmares forever. It was nearly impossible to get inside on the pretense of adopting an animal. The staff was openly hostile. All the animals were without available water on days when temps were in the mid-90's. Conditions were atrocious.

Bio:
Cubby was one of 3 puppies that were "sprung" from the 9th Circle. Cubby was originally seen in a kennel with his mom, trying to nurse. He was the only pup and he was really skinny but with distended belly. Both he and mom had missing patches of fur. I asked why there was only one pup. The caretaker shrugged and said, "There were 7, but the others died." No medical records of course...no indication why. Fortunately, Cubby (now sadly orphaned) has bounced back pretty well -- he eats with gusto, his fur has grown back shiny & soft, and he is lively, playful and very loving.
