I have 3 springers and I love them. They are easy to take care of and friendly. They require little grooming.

The breed requires ALOT. Don't let their looks influence your decision. They are alert, active, demand time, long walks, and running leash free DAILY. These dogs are one of the oldest hunting dogs bred for certain characteristics that demand constant physical and mental stimulation. My dog is only seven months and she requires daily activity, sometimes a three hour field day of running in 90 degree weather and still has enough energy to play fetch in the house when I get home. They are indeed great, loving, friendly, easy to train dogs BUT they require a very active owner. There are many who need to be rescued from prior owners who bought before thinking of the life changes necessary to have this great breed.

i have a springer spanial name dmolly. she is 1 and a half. She is about 45 pounds full grown.(some get bigger) They are mostly hyper. molly has sooooo much energy, so you need to either take it on a walk(or two) or have the space outside for running around. She is really sweet though. We had a miniture daushund too but when we had him, molly was a bit of a bully just cause she was soooo much bigger than him. she would do stuff like batt him with her paw and stuff. Also you should know about ear problems. It is VERY common for springers to get ear infections. We have spent like 400 dollars on vet bills for ear infections. So be carfull when bathing!!

Obiwan suffers from "Attention Deficit Disorder" (not enough attention and things get disorderly.) I understand this is normal for the breed. They really want attention and are somewhat jealous of another getting the attention they feel they deserve. He never gets nasty about it, just imposes himself in the middle of whatever is going on. Usually this happens when Luke is getting the attention he thinks should be his.

Luke being an Aussie Shepard/Border Collie mix is high energy and typically wears him out by the end of the day. To be fair, Luke is wore out too.

Obiwan really loves to chase squirrels, birds and other small game, and will sit at a glass door, begging to be let out to chase it.

Hi everyone! I know that this thread is pretty old, but my mom is also thinking about getting a springer.

She went to the website www.maessr.org and filled out an application to adopt a female no older than 8 months. My mom is pro-adoption/rescue!

Anyway, I wanted to see if you all thought that a spinger would fit in good with our family.

Right now I'm 15 months old, I love every dog a meet, and I have a cat sister (Bree) who lives in the house. My house isn't huge, it's 900 square feet, and we have just over 1/2 an acre of land. I have a pet safe wireless containment system (invisible fence without the wire). I love to run around and have fun, and mom will often call me crazy because I will run around at 100 mph. My mom doesn't keep me outside all of the time. I'm inside at night and outside only a few hours during the day - that's if the weather's nice and it's not too cold or too hot. Mom also brings me up to the barn where she works and keeps her horse. There are other dogs up there that I play with, barn cats, and kids. There are fields and pastures and woods that I get to run around in (along with the barn and indoor arena). They also have a pond that I will play in. I'm really good with birds .... good at chasing them but never catch them because they get away in the sky or pond! I'm more than happy to run around and be crazy, but I'm also more than happy to just chill out in the house.

Anyways, this is my life and I'd like to know if you think that a spinger sister would work out for me and my family? Thanks!

Sue
