Franky goes to dog parks alot and is a bit more fond of the big dogs. We have small dog, large dog, and an all sizes dog areas at the park. After a few minor, but briefly scary, encounters with troubled big dogs, I think maybe we should stick to the small dog area. Usually there are more active dogs in the mixed area, and that's what Franky likes,99% of the time its just fine. I used to think I was a good judge of dangerous dogs. The last incident a grey hound came out of nowhere and tackled Franky into a yelping submission. Luckily, it was just a take down, but what about next time?

Puggle owners that go to the dog park, what do you think? What are your experiences? What's your philosophy at the dog park?

Hi Franky. The dog park I go to only has one area--all sizes. Personally, I prefer to play with the big dogs. I am pretty tough, and I let them know if they are bothering me, and we have gotten to know almost all of the dogs there. Most people are pretty good about controlling their dogs, but sometimes people will bring a poorly socialized/poorly behaved dog and just turn it loose and not watch it. I guess it's just a risk you take at the dog park. If I feel intimidated, I either hide under the picnic table or I jump on top of it. But most of the time, everything is just fine.

I (Jimmy the puggle) go to the same park as Frankey and I agree. I really enjoy the big dogs, but sometimes they can be scary!! I have not yet had a bad experience, but sometimes I get bored with smaller dogs. When I go to Hazeldale and Frankey or some of my other friends are there that are small then I have a ball!! snoopy

Franky I agree I like big dogs too but there are some out there that are just not nice. I usually go in the small area but some big dog owners do not obey the signs and go in my small dog area. Basically my mom will just watch everything real close and if things starts to look like they are esclading she removes me from the park and we go home. makes me mad that they have to ruin my fun but i would rather be safe and not a chew toy.

thanks for all of you're input on the matter. I've decided to keep going to "mixed dog" area, thats where all the action is. Just stay observant of dogs we do not know. It's up to us humans to spot trouble before it spots us.

I HATE the dog park!!!! shock It is way to scarry for me. We went a couple times, and the last time, when I ran 3 other dogs ran after me. It was ok, unitl I wanted to stop and they kept running behind me!!! I finally hid behind a person and we eventually went home. Mom loves the dog park, but she gets scared for me!! I want to play, but get really nervous. . . . both times I cried and we ended up going home. . . . . I wish I was not so afraid . . . .

I love to play with big doggies too dog
When I go to the dog park, my family usually takes me to the mini park first. They scope out the big dog park to see how the big dogs interact with the smaller dogs. Then, if I get bored at the mini park and there aren't any aggressive doggies on the big dog side, they will take me to play snoopy
My mom doesn't like to take me and my 5 year old human brother to the big dog park, so I usually play at the mini park unless dad is with us.puppy

I like the dog park, I LOVE chasing the little dogs and smooshing them until they yelp! Mum gets Very mad at me. One time a boy dog just kept doing something bad to me and mum had bring me home to get a bath. I also like playing with the big dogs, especially if they will race me. I am so fast! I even raced a grey hound once! Sometimes, if I am too crazy or if the other dogs are too crazy, mum puts my leash on me and we just walk around a bit to calm down, and then I am ok. But mum ALWAYS exercises me BEFORE going to the park. That way some of my energy is already gone before we go in.

My puggle, Kaiden, has the same issue. He LOVES to play with the bigger dogs. At least he used to. Until the big dog barks! The bigger, louder bark scares him to death! I typically keep him leashed at the park until he has had a chance to smell (get to know) the other dogs. They do the "walk around" sniffing each others rear areas wink and after a few minutes all is well and everyone has had a chance to get to know everyone. I've had far fewer issues since approaching the park this way. Let me know how it works out for you!
