This may seem silly to most doggies (like my siblings) but, for me it's major progress!!!cheercheercheer
Lately in the mornings when everyone gets up and plays I have been going in and jumping up on Mom's bed and letting her snuggle me!!!hug Mommy is soo happy! When I first got here I wouldn't come in the houseshrug

Then I wouldn't come out of my room except to go outside......
Then I would go to the edge of the living room & Mom's room......
And NOW.....I go all over the house and even on Mom's bed!

I still don't like when anyone approaches me to pet me...I'd rather approach them or be safe in my bedwink

But...I've gone from being a feral dog to being a "Real Doggy" as Mom calls me! I play with toys and my family and act silly and it makes Mommy smileapplauseapplauseapplauseapplause

That is pawesome Ama. Baby steps! We know what it is like because I was the same as you, I am now pretty normal in the house, but I don't really like to leave my comfort zone and I sure don't let anyone but Mom or Dad come near me!

Mom says with dogs like us, it is not a race but a dance!

So hooray for your progress!

I spent the first six months of my life in a tiny yard with my dog Mom and Dad and 12 of my siblings from different litters. the humans only came out to give us food, and there wasn't enough so there was a lot of fights. I have a hole in my tongue to prove it, and I am missing teeth from malnutrtion.

The humans turned me and my siblings into the shelter, all 13 of us. 9 of my brothers and sisters had to be PTS because they were very aggressive. New Hope Cattle Dogs rescued me and three of my brothers when we were six months old. We were not mean at all, only scared and shy. My foster Mom had to carry me and my brothers outside. We were frightened of everything.

In November of 2006 when my new Mom and Dad came to see me, I ran right up to my Dad and let him pet me. My foster Mom nearly fainted. I had never run up to a stranger before, much less let anyone new touch me.

It has been baby steps ever since, sometimes even backwards steps. Rusty has helped to build my confidence so much! He is so brave and I will go pretty much anywhere with him.

So it has taken me six months to go from not wanting to leave the house at all (I used to lay down in the driveway and not budge) to now being able to walk all the way to the beach, about 1/2 mile!

My DAP collar helps, and I also take rescue remedy. I used to hate to be cuddled and now I love to cuddle with Mom in the early mornings and right before bed!

Wow Scout! That is an awesome story!way to go Very sad that humans are so cruel to furbabies....obviously have that "just a dog" mentality!cry
Thank goodness for your Mom & Dad's gigantimus heart!!!!!

It sounds like we have a lot of things in common though. I am very snuggly and playful with my Mom & Dad early in the morningshrug
The rest of the day I play with my siblings but, I don't really let anyone pet me very often.

And....I also get a lot of my confidence from being with my siblings. They taught me how to use the doggy door and that coming inside the house was a good thingdancingdancingdancing
Do you let your pawrents put a leash on you? I scream like they're killing melaugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loudlaugh out loudthinking

Wow! I'm so glad everypup is adjusting well.. I've really came out of my shell too.. I do LOVE to stay inside though.. I feel like if I have to go out then I'll never get to come back in so, when I am outside and someone opens the door, I push my way into the house. Sometimes I don't even wanna go out to potty cause I'm afraid I won't get to come back in. But I always do get to.. I just haved to get over that fear of not having a home and having to live outside by myself..
