Does anyone know if toy poodles are known for their teeth problems?

My mommies last poodle, Pepper had periodontal problems and had to have some of her lower teeth removed. The vet told her that poodles tend to have bad teeth, that we need to see the dentist just like a human. So my Mom makes sure I see the doggie dentist and get my teeth cleaned professionaly twice a year.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a doggie dentist.

My Mom found out about the doggie dentist from my Vet. The trained dental technicians come to the Vet's office a couple of days a week. There is anesthetic dental (for thoose with bad teeth), teeth are scaled and polished while the pet is under anesthesia and bad teeth and retained baby teeth may be extracted. Then there is the kind of dental care that I get, Non-Anesthetic Dental my teeth are scaled and polished without anesthesia. I am not very happy after having my teeth cleaned but, I know that my mom does it because it is good for me. My Mom's last poodle had to have some of her teeth extracted because she never saw the doggie dentist (only because my mom did not know about them either, at the time). Although I am not to found of the doggie dentist, I don't have a problem with "doggie breath." Plus, my vet told me that I am not allowed to have greenies (or that type of teeth cleaner), my vet does not reccomend them because so many of us choke on them and have to have surgery. Hope this helps.

Hi
Momma just took me to the funny lookin guy in the white coat (vet) and he pulled 4 of my baby teefies out. Said I could put them in my bed for the teefie fairy but momma rolled her eyes. shrug

Mommy (Allie) got her teefies cleaned by the vet - told her once a year after the age of 4 is a good pre..ve ve n.tive (prevenative) for good teefies.

My mommy also just found out about the dentist cleaning teeth professionally - and I am 14! I had it done a few months ago for the first time and had to have 11 teeth pulled! frown But I gained so much weight after it because it didn't hurt to eat anymore! I wish the stupid vet had told my mommy about it a long time ago. My whole family is mad about that, and mad that my poor mouth had to hurt for so long.

My mommy tries to brush my teeth but I HATE it and act like it is torture, so she feels bad and puts dental cleaning solution in my water instead! Works for both of us!

Ashes,

What is the solution that your mom puts in your water? My mom tries to brush my teeth and I hate it too. I get my teeth cleaned by the vet 2xs a year but...if mom does not have to brush my teeth I would be so much happier.

My momi had a poodle growing up that had dental problems. He had to have so many teeth taken out that she said they used to say, "gum it, Buffy, gum it," when he went to eat his food.

I have 2 teethies missing myself. Getting teeth is very expensive, momi says. She wishes she could take her more often.

I have had lots of problems with my teeth. A couple of years ago, I even got a blood infection that was caused by my infected gums. I was so sick and had to take medicine for it. Mommy and my human brother brush my teeth sometimes, but I hate it so bad that I shake all over and whine and cry. Mommy is excited that she found some dental wipes at Petsmart. She also wants to know more about the dental treatment that can be added to my water.
