Hi there,
We are new to dogster. When i got Rocky, he was not potty trained at all at 6 weeks old. We started crate training him. Boy was it hard. It broke my heart to have him cry everytime we put him in there. When vever we could not have our full attention on him he was in his kennel with some toys. Dogs will not go potty near where they sleep so they will learn to hold it until you let them out. Make sure that as soon as you let him out that you imediatly go outside. Hover by them until they poop or pee and immediatly give them a treat and tell him how good he is. This has helped hugely. Rocky was fully potty trained until the snow fell. Now we are having probs with him pooping in the house. I would say try the crate training and do not let them out of your site. and do not forget to PRAISE them when they do good. way to go

When my mom was potty training us, she used POSITIVE reinforcement. We were on a set schedule until we got the idea. Every hour she would take us outside and would say "goooo pee pee" in a happy high pitch happy sounding voice... She bought pee spray that is suppose to encourage us to go outside too. That seemed to help. When we did go to the bathroom out side she would give us a treat and act really excited and give us tons of praise. There was no doubt that we knew that peeing outside was a great thing.

We are on a pretty set pee schedule. An hour or two before bedtime, mom pulls up food and water so there are no accidents at night. RIGHT before bed we go outside and then to bed. In the morning before mom gets to do anything herself, she takes us out to go to the restroom. Then she comes in and goes potty herself. I don't get why she doesn't just pee with us!? Humans can be so weird!

When its cold, we wear jackets or sweaters outside. We look like models and love it. That helps keep us warm. We love the snow and love to play...but when we were babies she would shovel a pee area for us so our "weiners" wouldn't freeze off. smile

Key is to learning body language... Mom knows that after eating or drinking we will have to go out in about an hour. After a nice nap she takes us straight outside. And if I start sniffing around looking for trouble, that is another key. Cole usually barks and tells mom when he needs to go out. Our big brother Hunter will sit by the door patiently til someone notices.

Hope that helps... Ignore the accidents and don't make a big deal about it. Positive reinforcement, tons of praise and treats....
