 | | | | Well Maya and the Dinkidi gang you DID offend someone in this group. I am new to the group as well. I made an earlier post in the "Designer Dog" thread. Molly responded by saying NO ONE was bashing designer dogs in this group. My mommy could only have a small breed dog as per her landlord. She also had allergies to consider. Money is a factor as well as mommy has multiple sclerosis and can't work. She wanted a puppy that she could train from the beginning to eventually be a therapy dog and to assist her. All the local shelters had were large breed puppies. Purebred dogs from breeders were outside of her budget. After a lot of research she found a BREEDER of poo mixes. This man previously bred Bichon Friche's and had started breed poo mixes. He bred on a small level. His animals were all healthy and money was not a factor. After hearing mom's story he reduced the price significantly. I came with a one year health guarantee and a year of free vet care. Mommy met my parents and she met my brothers. I am healthy, happy and one of the best tempered dogs you would ever meet. Mommy has adopted shelter dogs in the past and if she could have found a small breed puppy in a shelter she would have adopted from a shelter again. Many factors go into someone's decision to purchase a dog rather than adopt a dog. Not everyone breeding poo mixes and other designer dogs are running puppy mills. All dogs were long ago mixes. Todays poo mixes could very well be a purebred years from now. We are all for spaying and neutering pups. I was spayed at 6 months. Designer dogs are not bad dogs and if they are coming from breeders (like me) rather than puppy mills they shouldn't be condemned. Would it have been better for mommy to adopt a dog from a shelter knowing it was going to be a large breed dog then losing her apartment when it grew over 10 pounds or worse having to surrender it to keep her apartment? I am not a bad dog. I love everyone and mommy is very devoted to animal causes. So many things in this group mommy and I agree with and we hope to make lots of friends here. But mommy is very sensitive to people saying bad things about Designer Dogs. Too many times since I came to live with mommy she has had to put up with people saying bad things to her for buying me. Dogster is a place for fun and sharing love amongst the pups. I want to be part of this group and help with the causes it advocates for and I will be the first to say don't buy from puppy mills but not all Designer dogs are from puppy mills and it isn't fair to make me feel bad or my mommy feel bad because of my breed. I know how pit bulls feel always being discriminated against based simply on reputation. Don't make me out to be bad because I am a designer dog. | | | | |
