I am new here. I was wondering if anyone else has a Jack with ears that don't fold down? What makes them fold down?

Usually it is genetics that cause a JRT to have prick ears. If there is one dog in a family that has it, you can bet there will be others.
Sometimes when a puppy is teething their ears will do funny things, what I do is massage them back down into place. Once the dog stops teething the ears will go back to normal. But having prick ears sure doesn't take away from their cuteness.

Woof!!
You're not alone, Ginger! While my ears don't stand up, they don't usually fold quite right, either. They kinda stick out on the side of my head.
If you click on "See the members" on the group page, you can see other JRTs with your type of ears, like Lola Bella!

Nothing wrong with your ears.

Everywhere mom has seen under qualifications for registry for papers it is a requirement to have folded ears. Does anybody know anything about this because although both of my parents are purebreds I don't have papers and mom thinks it might be nice to get some, although it isn't necessary for her but it could just be for fun.

Hi I'm Phoebe... well my ears are different, when I run and play, they fold back! Mom says the reason jrts have prick ears is that its thick all the way to the ends. Nothing wrong with it, in fact we find it all so cute - like Lola Bella's and Radar's snoopy

Hee hee... the deal with ears is that they are PREFERRED to fold. Prick ears, rose ears, and other types of ears are ACCEPTABLE (by EJRTCA standards) but not preferred. My mommy isn't crazy about my ears standing up because they folded perfectly when I was a puppy, but she loves me all the same. Tess's ears are funny... one sticks up and one folds down nicely, so she always looks puzzled about something. Spice is the only JRT in our house with "preferred" folded ears... but she doesn't always carry them that way! Sometimes she folds just one, sometimes they stick out a little, and sometimes they flay to the side and she looks like she has bat ears! laugh out loud No matter what our ears look like, we are still the cutest breed of dog EVER (in my humble opinion)! Everyone in this group is adorable just the way they are, ears included!! big grin

This is Radar's mommy - We got him at 6 months, and he came with official papers. I think its like what GSB said - folded ears are preferred, but prick ears are acceptable.

Oh and I agree, Jacks are definitely the cutest breed EVER! way to go
