 | | | | Hi everyone,
As you may know from the Orientation thread, we are going to be holding elections for Mayor of Downtown Dogster! Interested candidates should post their intent to run for Mayor in this thread. Campaigning may begin on Monday, October 16, 2006.
The Mayor’s duties include:
- Carrying out and enforcing the programs and policies established by the Council.
- Enforcing the regulations, policies, and procedures of Downtown Dogster and faithfully executing the laws and ordinances of Dowtown.
- Assisting Council in considering new member applications to Downtown and planning events.
- Attending events Downtown, such as the opening of new businesses, parties, sporting events, and hosting a Mayor's Gala Ball once per term.
- Acting as inter-Dogster relations liaison, spreadking good will amongst other groups and forums.
- Assisting new members and helping orient them to Downtown as needed.
- May be asked to attend and participate in Council meetings.
- Other duties as determined.
Anyone who has not been kenneled by Dogster in the past 6 months may run for Mayor. Candidates are encouraged to campaign and speak with the citizens of Downtown Dogster. We do ask that candidates refrain from bad mouthing other candidates as part of their campaigns. Any candidate seen doing so will be disqualified from running.
Voting may begin on October 16th and the last day to get your votes in will be October 29th. Normally campaigning is only allowed for 7 days, but as this is the first election, it will be extended. Please e-mail your votes to BiscuitDylan@yahoo.ca
The votes will be counted on the 30th and the winner announced that evening. The Mayor's term begins on November 1 and is for two months. A new election will be called at the end of December - dogs are prohibited from campaigning during non-election times.
Dogs who live at home with a member of Council are also prohibited from running (i.e. Biscuit and Jelly Bean can't run), because this wouldn't be fair.
So candidates, get ready for lots of baby-kissing and hand-shaking! Bribing members of Council is appreciated, but won't get you elected. | | | | |
