 | | | | Lucy, One of the things Patricia told me was that Zoya wanted me to talk to her more. I had been letting her sleep where she wanted in the house, usually the bedroom in her bed (she couldn't jump up on mine anymore and I was afraid she would fall trying to get down) or by the front door or near the back porch door. Since I'm a Realtor and work from my home office, I'm at home a lot on the computer and phone and could watch her and keep track of how she was doing, regulate her meds, etc. At that point, we were only taking a walk 1/2 way down the block and back and sometimes not even that. She eventually needed me to help her into the backyard with a sling in the am and at night. I couldn't lift her in and out of the car by myself and she wouldn't let anyone help me so our car rides ended also.
When Patricia told me this in May and that we still had a few months yet, I started talking to her more, sitting on the floor with her, reminising about things that we did and when my daughters lived at home. In fact, I would put them on the phone with her when they called and she would respond with a tail wag but then she would go look out the window and it would break my heart. All my daughters managed to come visit that spring and summer and I knew it was to say goodbye to Zoya. My youngest came the weekend before Zoya went to the Rainbow Bridge and we all just knew it was time. She also told me that Zoya was worried about leaving me which is why she hung around as long as she did. Zoya saw how upset I was when I had to send Kazpurr to the Rainbow Bridge the day after his 15th birthday because he developed a galloping liver cancer that was asymptomatic until it was too late and it was inoperable . It took me two years before I found Howi at the new Animal Shelter. I had accompanied a friend. I already had Cosmo, the Queen cat, at home and she told Patricia she didn't need or want "a friend" and she didn't know why I felt it necessary to have this strange cat live with us. And he better not try to sleep in her beds or go on her window shelf either. (I got Cosmo the window shelf as bribery for bring home Howi-Patricia knew none of this) Patricia said that Howi was a walk-in for Kazpurr, which means that Howi allows Kazpurr to take over his body at times. As soon as she said that I got the chills because there were, in fact, rare occassions that Howi acted like Kazpurr yet they have very different backgrounds and temperments. Anyway, the vet said Zoya probably lived 2 yrs longer than he thought she would and it was probably because she didn't want to leave me. We can talk more about this another time, if you want. I don't think this applies to Annie although the other day, an FPL guy came to the door and she barked and acted like a guard dog! I never saw her do that before in the year I've had her- usually, it's tailwagging and "come on in"......If y'all want, I will ask Patricia to read over the board and see if she has any comments for anyone.Edited by author Sat Jan 6, '07 9:38pm PST
