I figured to get this rolling, we'll probably have to do some fundraising to get food and everything.

I thought of a few such as:

Walk for dogs
(kind of like walk for cancer, but everyone brings their dogs and donates dog treats etc.)
With the walk we could get sponsers like Purina or some other dog food brand and maybe they could give us something for every dog we could get to join in the walk?

I had more, but I kind of forgot them. I'll post if I can remember them, anyone else who has an idea please post it!

edit: to add about sponsors

When mom was in Girl Scouts they donated money to the shelter. What they did was sell stuff like jewelery. Maybe someone could make jewelery or something?

Check out my entry on109 Fundraising Ideas. I bolded main points to make it easier to read through, I hope that helps get you started with ideas! puppy

Hmm, the link doesn't seem to be working. Copy and paste this and take out the space:

Cinco that sounds like a good idea! My mom is still in Girl Scouts (Girl Guides as it's called here in Canada). We could sell like homemade jewlery and crafts, and maybe have a bake sale there too (people and dog treats)! If we could get a little kid to help us, things would go really quickly (little kids sell things easily!). Then again so do little cutsy type dogs too.

Wow Jasmine...There are a lot of good ideas on your page (alright I didn't actually read them ALL, but a lot of them I did).

This would be so much easier if we were all in the same area bol, but then it wouldn't be spreading all over that way.

To Whom It May Concern,

Hi! I am a new member, Jessie, the cocka poo. Anyways, I kinda have an idea, I know this is typical, but we could always do a car wash for all the dogs! We could collect the money, maybe like 5 or 10 bucks a car and then we could donate it to the shelters for dogs, or even save up to start new ones! I know it original, but it might work!

Also, we could put an add in the newspaper asking for people's help and describe out cause, it might work!

Or we could maybe post up a newsletter saying that anyone who signs up for "Sheltering a Shitzu" will find as many homeless dogs they could possibly find and bring them in their house for a week and whoever has the most dogs receives a special award! It might work! Who knows!

Well, hope this helps!

Respectfully helping dogs, Jessie

Jessie, those are great ideas, but we're more focused on getting food for the dogs who still have owners. Like the homeless people who keep their dogs, but since they are homeless, their dogs aren't getting enough food, or warmth or anything like that.
Just because those dogs are more likely to be people friendly and everything.

Though the car wash could work, I entered a contest in a magazine and the prize is a $150 gift certificate to Future Shop, or $150 donation to a charity. I wrote if I win that I want it to go towards this.

I thought of another idea, what if we host a 30 hour phamon (sp?), when you get people to sponser people not to eat for 30 hours. It could be kind of like a demonstration of "How it feels to be these dogs"

Also dog food companies will donate food as long as what they are donating to is a valid group. What they would donate is misprinted bags, or near expiry date foods. But even thoughthe expiry date is near or passed on these foods, I don't think it matters too much for these dogs as long as it's not wet food, the main goal is to get them fed!

How about a Dog Wash. Charge people to wash their dogs. Send that money straight to this. Let people know what is going on I am not sure on how to get sponcers, but getting someone to wash my dog would be worth it. Only prob with this is it would have to be inside. What about a local pet store I bet they would help?

Yeah I've been trying to spread the word., I've posted on the Adoption & Rescue forum as well as Other Barks and Woofs. Maybe someone could post it on the Plus forum too?
I'll try to get the word around to everyone I can, maybe we could get our own website so even people who don't own dogs can join too so it's not limited to just dogster.
