I had a high school friend back in 1989 that had an Irish Setter named "Mahogany" that I loved to pieces. When I grew up I wanted my own dog and just looked in the paper and decided to get a German Shepherd. Well I was inexperienced and it turned out that "Major" had hip dysplasia. I loved and cared for him for thirteen years until he passed away in February 08. After watching him struggle I knew I would research and study different breeds and their problems before I'd buy another. While looking at different breeds I remembered how much I loved my friends dog. My family liked the breed and we decided to start searching for our new family member. I found the perfect girl (with parental certifications) in California, so we shipped her all the way to Indiana. I have never been so crazy about a dog in my entire life as I am with my "Mahogany"!!!happy dance

My mom's very 1st red head was found at the animal shelter - some one had broken their window and took her fur kid (gypsie - a setter dobie mix) and mom searched and searched every shelter in the county hoping to find her. I guess she thought a kid took her pup and the mom would make them do the right thing - She was wrong - Then one day, another trip to the shelter - she saw this pretty little irish girl who melted her heart. Mom says that "Ginger" (her first Red headed baby) was her best friend and side kick from that day forward - They did everything together - when Mom had her first human baby - ginger stayed with her every second of the day- 2 am feedings too. She was a friend, protector a special member of the family.) it's pretty tough on the rest of us 'cause Ginger was perfectsmile Mom said the day she found Ginger was the day she rediscovered her heart. Since Ginger was in the family - even though we love all kinds of pups - there has always been at least one redhead in our home.

dog My love of the Irish started as a young girl growing up in Michigan. Our first one was Molly. She matched me with her personality.. free spirited, independent, smart, loyal, and always there for me. I am now on my fourth Irish, Maggie. She is seven years old and my companion. I only wish I could trust her off of a leashfrown but I have never been able to get her not to run. and the only way to get her home is to get in the car and drive after her and ask her if she wants to go for a ride. I love all hunting dogs but the Irish has a special place in my heart. I connect with thier personality, they remind me of myself and I have never had one who didn't understand me and I them. They are beautiful dogs who steal your heart with thier antics and thier lovely eyes. They know when they do something wrong and just look at you with thier heads down until you forgive them, which doesn't take long with that look. I could go on and on but I know all of you that love the Irish know exactly how I feel. Once in love with them always in love with themhappy dance
