Super Dog, Ta- Da!!!!!

There is a lot of discussion in the forums about what we eat. Sometimes it can become very heated and many people have different views. My mama wanted to bring this food topic up in this
group so we can have a calm civilized conversation. She is also very curious as to what other parents feed their Super Doggies. All our parents love us or they would not be on a site like Dogster so no food bashing please. Just list what you feed your SUper DOggies and why. This is just a discussion to maybe learn something or get different ideas.

Main course: Raw Food - Bravo Blends

Treats: Evo cookies, chicken jerky and homemade organic cat poop - check out my site for details

Sunday Dinner: Cooked chicken or beef and veggies (we usually eat at the grandparents house and they like to cook for me)

Supplements: Cosiquin (glucosamin/chondriton), MSM, Wholelistic Canine Complete, Colostrum, Raw Apple Cider Vinegar and Salmon Oil.

Water: Bottled Spring water - the water quality sucks in L.A.

Special Treats: Bully Sticks and Raw marrow Bones.

My mama started me on a raw diet about a year ago because I came down with mange!! Ew I know!! Mange is usually not found in adult dogs. It was most likely due to a low immune system so my mama got really scared and tried to boost my immune system as much as possible and so she researched raw food. She also started me on colostrum which is suppose to be very good for the immune system. She has tried quite a few different ways of feeding me a raw diet but she has found that feeding the prepackaged Bravo Blends is the easiest for her. And it is about the same price as buying ground beef or chicken. She started feeding me different supplements just as she came across different articles in her research. My mama is going to also start me on coconut oil, she read in the Whole Dog Journal that it is very good for preventing cancer.

This is just a list of what my mama feeds me. She has found that it is what works best for me. Remember different things work for different dogs.

And once: rat poison (which led to much unpleasantness at the vet little of which I remember- but I'm fine, now).

Main Course: Nutro lamb meal and rice/ small bites but I want to be a big boy and try to chew the big bites.

Treats: Raw hide (my mommy does not like giving them to me but I decide I want to chew on other things- ate my food bowl and had to have my stomach pumped.. So needless to say the vet told my mommy to give me raw hide), better than ears, Iams or Old Mother Hubbard (all natural treats), beggin strips and my favorite Popcorn! I sometimes get eggs and/or rice. I love hardboiled eggs!

I get bottled water to drink since we live in Italy and the water is not safe to drink .. I can't eat any type of people food except for popcorn and with doggie food my mom has to monitor what I eat. I have food allergies and I get really bad rashes from certain things.

Hmmm. the good old dog food question..... Well, mom thinks what she gives me is the best, I am sure others think not, and if you know BAD things about it, maybe you shouldn't tell us. Mom did some research on dog food and wanted to make sure she got me a kind that didn't have too many bad things in it, mainly unnatural preservatives. So mom feeds me Nutro Max for large dogs. I love it. I was taken off of it for awhile because the vet thought I developed food allergies. When I wasn't on Nutro Max, I started to shed like crazy, my fur became very dull and faded and my skin became dry and flakey. Once I was put back on Nutro Max all my skin problems went away. I only eat dry food, never any canned food. The vet and mom say its too fatty for me. I haven't ever tasted any canned food, so I don't know what I am missing! I am not allowed to have much people food, which I think stinks, but mom insists upon it. The only people food I get are apples that are cored and filled with a little fat free cream cheese, that make it tons of fun to eat. The apple rolls around so I have to chase it and then I love to try and dig the cream cheese out. I love them! I also love to eat raw carrots. They are a great training treat. For biscuits, I usually prefer Old Mother Hubbard liver treats or the 100% natural treats that they sell at a local dog bakery. I'm also not allowed to have any rawhide or pigs ears. Our vet recommends against it and mom is a worry wart, so we go along with the vet.

Oliver good idea about the apples. That sounds yummy and fun. Maybe I'll get my mama to try putting peanut butter in the middle. YUMMY

Yep Casey, the apples are a great idea, they are entertaining because they make crunchy sounds, they roll around on the ground, so I get to chase them, they are 100% edible once mom cores them, and they have a perfect little hiding place for treats, the cored out area, sometimes mom hides a special treat in the cream cheese for me. Mom likes the apple idea because its just like those expensive rubber toys that treats can be hidden in, but she saves a ton of money by using apples and she doesn't have to worry about me eating the rubber bits that I tend to rip off any rubber toy.

I am prone to allergies, so mom buys me Natural Balance Duck and Potato Allergy Formula. It contains no corn, wheat, dairy products or preservatives. Plus, it's yummy! I love it. My skin has improved dramatically since switching to this food and my itching has stopped.

Treats: chicken jerky, allergy formula salmon-flavored cookies and sweet potato raw hide (organic).

Supplements: Omega 3 oils (this helps with my allergies too and keeps my coat super-shiney) and Glyco-Flex II.

Hi Nikki,
The Glyco-Flex is great. I had a joint injury when I was younger and had a limp for several months. Since taking the Glyco-Flex, I have become active again, running, walking, chasing my ball and my limp has gone away.
Yes, the sweet potatoe raw hide treats that my mom buys are Sam's Yams. I love 'em, and mom likes them because they are natural and digestible and don't contain all sorts of preservatives. We buy them at a doggy store down the road from us called Pet People. I think you can also buy them online at frontporchpets.com .
