Hey all, I know I'm a bit of an alarmist, but this has really scared me because you know how quick people are to judge a breed by one act, and sad to say, but espc. here in the South. It seems that a Shepard/Dane mix "attacked" a 9 year old just across the street from us today, and now I'm scared of the backlash by people when we take Max out. Anyhow, here is the link so you can read the whole story.

I'm going to post this on all of the Dane groups we belong to in case it doesn't get to someone, and if you read this several times, I'm very sorry.
I guess what I'm asking is if there is a backlash by the city/county/indviduals I'm hoping ya'll will "have my back" and help me raise awareness that DANES ARE NOT DANGEROUS. My biggest fear is having my baby boy taken from me.....I can't even think about that.
In case the "cut & paste" thing doesn't work you can Google "WJHL" or go to www.tricities.com and find it there. Thanks for letting us bend your ears, and I hope that we won't have anything negative happen.....keep your paws crossed!

Im so sorry for your prediciment. Maximus looks like such a sweet boy.
Ok so here is my thoughts. Danes are such beautiful breed that everyone is interested. Althougth everyone I have ever talked to says they were intimitaded but never seen a mean one. Now you know the whole thing where everyone is afraid of pit bulls, rotties, german shepards ect? (not picking on breeds, example). If anything, because of the whole breed sterotype thing when people think of attacks they think alot of times these breeds even though its not the breed its the owner. So if anything I bed you hear about the sheppard end more than the dane end.
Sounds as if the dog felt threatned to me. Besides, where was the parent that the child was left unattended with a dog? Hugs to you cutie.

We recently had a pack of danes get out of thier backyard just south of us. One of them killed a pregnant alpaca, and chased after adults barking at them. You could imagine what this has done for all of us who liked taking our danes out for walks. The adults who were running away from the dogs had been taunting them for months before the dogs finally broke thorugh the fence ( 6 foot tall fence).

Awweh.
I don't understand people. They will judge a breed by its background. Great Danes acutally have been fighting dogs back in the day. Most people don't know that, but if they did they would be just like the pit bull. Scared of them. Named "Dangerous, watch out"
confusedIt atually makes me cry at times to read about pit bulls. They are such sweet dogs. This is the frist time I have ever heard a Great Dane/other dog attack someone.
