|Before my mom got smart and got me, she had bulldogs for 20 years. She said that English bulldog puppies can be even more expensive than Frenchies and can have even more health issues than our breed. But her opinion on price, after having listened to the litany of reasons over the years that bulldog puppies "should" be so expensive, is that it is more of a "what the market will bear" situation. Yes, we are special. Yes, bulldogs are special. But an asking price of a few thousand dollars for a puppy who will cost many more thousand over the course of their lifetime does not discourage those who will not be able to afford the long term care. It just means that when the dog is diagnosed with an expensive condition, rescue is likely to end up with the dog.
Gosh, mom can be so opinionated!
