So funny story. . .

I have wanted a dog since my maltese dog died two years ago at the ripe old age of 18, i had him since i was a child, and my mind was set on a shiba inu i even posted on their forum for awhile asking as many questions as i could and even finding the right breeder but of course fate intervened.... I was reading the paper and a foster home needed to find a home for a puppy desperately he was a 4 month old beagle puppy that had been used as a bait dog in dog fighting events (A bait dog i was told is a gentle dog that an agressive dog can rip to shreds to make it even more agressive) Toby as ive now named him was rescued and put in a foster home after his scares had healed. He's a sweet little guy very timid, and very loving. I saw him and took him home. I vowed to be the dogs owner for the rest of his life and give him the best life available. So for two days he stayed in the second bedroom of my apartment in his kennel not wanting to come out... my 4 ex-stray cats no longer wish to talk to me anymore by the way. And afterwards the little guy just sprung to life he let me take him for walks upto 5 times a day to tire him out, but he's very hard to handle on a leash i find! he goes on his puppy pads i bought him at night which is great, he eats EVERYTHING and then suddenly on day 3 I heard a beagle howl for the first time while he was trying to play with one of my cats.... what a set of lungs! And then his nose just led him into the weirdest places... I no longer have matching socks, my favourit scarf or heels. And i'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what i've gotten into for the next 12-15 years? And can anyone tell me how they relax after they get angry with their puppy, I am now using the cover my face with a pillow and scream method, my dog then thinks its howling match.. so in short I've been reading non stop these last few days but i want to hear it from actual beagle owners EVERYTHING and ANYTHING they can tell me about the beagle breed and hound dogs in general

They do mellow out some as they get older, though there are a few I know that still get into everything. Keep in mind that when the nose hits the ground, the ears tend to turn off and they are never 100% reliable off lead.

I'd start redirecting any unwanted chewing towards an appropriate chewie. Between teething and stress relief, they tend to chew a lot.
